Just Busted out Kouros

Haven't worn it in a looooong time. It's certainly one of the more polarizing fragrances out there. Are you a fan or do you hate this "Pierre Bourdon masterpiece" as it is customarily referenced? Me? I'm a fan...

I love it. Had to wear it a couple times to break the 'urinal cake' association in my mind so that it smelled 'like Kouros' and not like the restroom at Ted Turner field. If I didn't have a customer meeting first thing in the morning I'd break it iut tomorrow - maybe Wednesday

On my "to try" list, though I'm still a bit concerned :skep:

I have a decant of Creed Orange Spice and find it to be repulsive. I've heard that it shares that urinal cake smell.

Huge fan. Wife an even bigger fan. Anytime I spray it on, I'm pretty much guaranteed some lovin'. #1 on my list of must-haves.

I never like to discourage trying, but chances are if you don't like Orange Spice, you won't like Kouros. They're in the same family.

I totally agree. In fact, I used to say that Orange Spice is what Kouros wants to be when it grows up. OS is easier to wear but I've gone back and now think Kouros is the more sophisticated one. There's more incense in Kouros, which is why I like it better. Definitely a "dirty" note to it, but something so beautiful about it.

Yes, they're definitely so close to each other that while it's not impossible for someone who dislikes Orange Spice to like Kouros, it's highly improbable.

I owned both but kept Kouros (I have 2 bottles of regular Kouros), it could have just as easily gone the other way...

The thing is, I have an affinity for YSL frags - I've enjoyed everyone one I've tried, save for the newer ones that you would find in Sephora. Another thing is that I find orange scents to generally be a nauseating turn off (I find the orange note in some Hermes to be off-putting). So the combination of urinal cake and orange in Orange Spice was definitely out-of-bounds for me. I think I still owe Kouros a try some day.

It's strange, most people call it a love-or-hate kind of frag, whereas I can genuinely say I am almost neutral on it.
I mean, it's nice enough, I like it, and I don't regret seeking out a chrome-trim bottle, but I'm not going to replace it when I use it up.

I prefer my stanky fragrances to be a little darker, as I find Kouros to be interestingly bright.

You may consider the Kouros Fraicheur flanker. I hate to steer you in the direction of a discontinued scent, but it is very similar to Kouros except the civet which gives Kouros it's dirty/animalic/urinal note is toned way down. It's still there, but not nearly as prominent in the Fraicheur version.

I'm not typically a fan of flankers, but Fraicheur is solid. In fact Aaron01 is the man that turned me onto it.

A true blast from the past. I wore it in the 90's and have not used it since then.

Surely your taste has changed since the 90s. :)

If you get the nerve to try it again, it would be interesting to see if you still like it or not.

If my feeble mind recalls correctly, I used it from 1988 to 1991. I moved on to other scents. This thread has me curious again as to why I liked it. I will have to buy a bottle and try it again.

Thanks Tim for the nostalgia.

:w00t:

Phew, glad to see you're in Texas...hopefully the smell won't come wafting over towards the West Coast.

(Just kidding, of course!)

Truthfully, I haven't smelled it in quite a long time...maybe I wouldn't mind it so much now.

Thanks, Tim. I will keep an eye out for this one. I'm a big fan of Body Kouros though I understand that it has little to nothing in common with the original.
