John's Foaming Mouthwash and Aftershave

No, not the same recipe.

I spent some significant time in the desert in my time and we always used to use a little trick of rinsing with hydrogen peroxide to keep our mouths from getting sores. I carried that on, mixing my Scope or Listerine blue 50/50 with peroxide, if anyone wants a really cleaning mouthwash. Rinse after, ok?

A bit of bad luck (and poor technique, sadly) has left me with a kind of (small) persistent thing on my neck that acts like an ingrown but is probably mild staph and I have been treating it with peroxide.

Recently, I switched to Safeway brand witch hazel as an aftershave and said nasty has started staying shrunk (sorry about the alliteration). I got pondering and came up with this combination at first:

250 ml (1 bottle) of witch hazel
125 ml 3% peroxide
125 ml of rubbing alcohol

First results were promising but it is more drying than I like so I've added:

5 ml tea tree oil
50 ml aloe

Stings a bit and shows bad technique with foam but initial use is showing good results. Anybody else have a secret recipe?

I'm intrigued. Thanks for sharing your recipe.

Do you rinse this off? How long does the foaming last?

There is relatively little peroxide in it so there is not enough foam to leave you looking like a meerschaum pipe

I don't rinse it; the witch hazel, tea tree and aloe work their stuff.

No scent but, as noted in another thread, I'm ok with that.

PS: Note: I edited the original post. Five ml of tea tree, not fifty.

Thanks for noting the edit. When my current supply of AS starts to run out I may have to give this a try.

I'll have to try that recipe some time, sounds interesting. Thanks for the mention of Safeway witch hazel, BTW. For some reason I've never looked for it there. I went for some sale steaks this morning and sure enough, it's about half the price I was paying at Walgreen's! (and not as funky of a scent for some reason:thumbup1:)

Well, the results are mostly in.

The nasty on my neck is almost gone.

I had one really bad shave one morning, tons of weepers and one shallow slash. Hurt like all get out when I splashed on but by that night, pretty much everything was gone.

va bene.
