What's new

Ive just had the greatest shave of my life

I cannot believe the quality of the shave I've just had. I'm 45 years old and I've never had a shave this good. Now what would do that you may ask. Well it was a 1912 GEM (thanks Keith). I used a GEM Personna blade. Just cheap Palmolive cream. Triple pass, WTG, ATG and CTG. I was pretty careful as the blade felt real sharp and that it was an aggressive profile. Short but deliberate stokes, especially under the nose. I didn't want to have to visit a Plastic Surgeon. When I rinsed my face after the third pass I ran my hands over my face and was astonished at how smooth it was. There was just nothing but slippery smooth skin. Even the problem area that I have on the right side of my Adams Apple that normally requires at least have a dozen touch ups to get it feeling half OK was BBS.

If you've never tried one of these razors then you owe it to yourself to give one a go. The razors are very well priced compared to some of the Gillettes and you just never know, you might also have the greatest shave of your life.

Anyone who has tried a GEM has had nothing but praise for them. I may have to get one and experience it for myself.:biggrin1:

Absolutely! Extremely affordable and can be bought in antique shops for a couple of dollars.

Nicely done, johnmrson!

Congrats!

Just bought a Gem that was part of a lot of razors...a Micromatic. Cleaned it up and used as soon as I could...what a fantastic razor!

Is it the stiff blade?

Not sure why it felt so good, it just did.

Congratulations once again, hope to have a shave like that myself one day.

Regards,

Baba

Agreed, they are great for me. Used Junior this morning. I'm expecting my sample pack from WCS today or tomorrow so I will be concentrating on blade testing for the next several days and probably won't be using the GEM or injectors for awhile so I thought I'd get in one last use.

They are a bit intimidating the first time you look at one loaded and ready to go.

Not always a love story.

But worth trying for sure. There are many GEMs and Ever Readys, some models suit people better others.
The 1912 damaskeene is only a GEM, the plain 1912 can be a GEM or ever ready (or star).
The 1914 is a ever ready only AFAIK (lift here razor cap lid), as is the 1924 (hinged at the front razor cap lid).
The micromatic is GEM only
Then when the "g bar" came out, there was an "e bar" as well as both gem and ever ready made them. I'll stop there because I've never used anything after that, like a featherweight or contour.
I guess the point I'm making is that no one should just try one SE to decide whether SE is for them, there is many variations of SE "GEMs/ever ready/stars" to try
