What's new

Its official I have a problem

As I sit in my computer chair at 1130 pm scouring ebay and the BST looking for my next purchase It hit me I do indeed have a problem. I just started DE shaving last month and I already have 3 razors and keep wanting to buy more. I was told to lock up my credit cards by the members here...I guess they were serious. Oh well I guess it could be worse. At least I havent even considered looking at St8s yet

As long as you have the funds, budget your purchases, and make sure to keep it under control, AD can be fun. :)

The bad thing (and in many ways, fun thing) about wetshaving is you never know what works best for you until you've tried a gazillion things. And of course, "try" usually means "buy."

ya and it seems like I tend to go for the expensive taste in razors, I don't even necessarily need them because I have a light beard but I am really liking how the bostonians and new standards look.

Make sure you do your research, Gillette put the same razor in different cases and gave them different names.

Unless you are building a display collection, you really don't need 5 of the same razor.

Wait what am I saying, Yes I do.:001_huh:

haha my problem is even though I may have the same razor I look at it and go for the price y not have a backup haha.

Yeah, it sounds like you've got the text book definition of RAD! :w00t:

+1 As long as you can still buy food (noodles are a good, cheap option) and pay the rent/mortgage it's not getting out of hand!

I had the same problem. Early onset wetshave disorder exacerbated by Amazon Prime.

I'm tapering off now. Well, kinda. Just two razors, (Edwin Jagger D87 and the Merkur 1904) and two brushes (Edwin Jagger Best Badger and pre-Vulfix Simpson Polo 8), but about two dozen pucks of shaving soap, the full line of Proraso and Musgo Real shaving product and about a dozen creams, pre-shave oils, ASB, etc.

My new rule is new purchases only when I completely use up an item.
However, it only took a week to break that rule when I found a good source for Lavanda shaving cream...

That is my rule too. So when my Boots Cool Cologne Cream is used up I will try something else. I am going to do the same with blades too, although now I am shaving with confidence I notice that Feathers are calling my name.

Someone call 911 :a46:. We have code blue...Joe's suffering from RAD .

I would say, it's OK as long as you have a budget set...it can get expensive. Also, go easy on DE acquisitions since you I can almost guarantee that you'll be looking at str8s in no time. Oh boy, and when the str8 bug kicks in, you better watch out :biggrin1:.

You don't want all your $$ to go the DE razors when you could be saving it for str8s.

Happy shaving

Like most things in life, moderation is the key.

I am on a rather tight budget at the moment. In fact, what prompted me to return to shaving with a DE was $$$, (and the poor performance of current multi-blade carts).

I have set limits as to how much I will pay for a razor, and how many I will own at one time. I own 7 DEs, and have never paid more than $30 for one. Most were under $20. My most expensive was a FatBoy ($27) won on ebay a couple months ago that somehow slipped under everybody else's radar! My only new razor was my first ... a $24 Merkur 1904. Anything that now comes into the armory will necessitate something else to be either sold or PIF'd. That includes brushes, soaps and AS too.

As for soaps and aftershaves, my rule is no more than two AS on the shelf at a time (unless I receive more as a gift). I currently have a tube of Proraso, a tub of Cella (I splurged  ), and the remnants of a Col Conk assortment. I'm good for probably two years. Brushes, only three: Tweezerman ($15), Omega Pro ($10), Omega Bambino for travel ($9). Blades, enough for a year.

When economic fortunes improve, it will be fun to perhaps increase the size of the collection. But for now, I have other priorities. If you find yourself getting out of control, then set some boundaries.

Someone could make a mint by selling huge sample kits of creams (and possibly soaps, not sure how that would work.)

My new rule is "New Purchases ONLY when I find something that I want to buy."

I like it... hopefully I can stay away from straights for a while. I guess with a stock pile if I forget a bday or something I'll always have a quick present to give out.
