Itchy Face

Okay, here comes another newbe with another newbe question. I tried to search for the answer and either my searches suck or no one's talking about this.

Having recently decided to improve my shave, I have a Merkur HD, some Trumper Violet and a Vulfix Super Badger on order. While I anxiously await their arrival, I've been trying hot towel preshaves and some new XTG & ATG techniques with my M3 and some Lab Series SC. While my shaves are much closer than my old one pass WTG shaves, my face is crazy itchy.

Is this just a mild razor rash that should improve with a sharper blade and better lather or is there something else I should looking at?

Have you been using the Lab Series SC for awhile? If not, maybe your skin is having some sort of disagreement with it. However, if you've been using this cream for awhile to no ill effect then yeah, I think that it's a result of the new techniques you're trying.

Don't forget that each time you do a pass with an M3 it's equivalent to 3 passes with a DE. So you're scraping an awful lot of skin off while you shave. I'll normally do around 3x passes -- if you do 3 passes with your M3 that's like doing a 9 pass shave! No wonder your face is feeling "crazy itchy." Altho I confess, I wonder why it's itching versus burning. Whenever I shave too closely my skin hurts & burns; it doesn't itch.

EDIT: Oh yeah, I almost forgot...welcome to B&B!

You've mentioned everything but what you're finishing your shave with currently.

I'd say itch could typically be from your skin being overly dry, not so much from razor burn. Are you using an alcohol based AS vs. a soothing balm?

Thanks for the input. I think I've got a combiation or both answers. I only took 2 passes, but doing the math, that equates to 6 per blade, so rough time on the old face. After Shave? What after shave? I actually haven't used after shave in years. Perhaps if I'm going to start treating my face better, it should include after shave.

...says the guy in the Aftershave forum. :001_rolle

Yes, that's probably a good idea.

+1

I would recommend Nivea Extra Soothing Balm/Sensitive Skin (found just about anywhere $2-4).

+1 on this one.
Besides, until you recieve "the real stuff", please, PLEASE avoid going ATG with an M3...
Your shaves won't be as rough and your skin moisturized: problem solved!!:smartass:

Then, go with light strokes and NO PRESSURE.
FWIW=> YES, you NEED an AS treatment, any kind [insert your choice here]

lol !!! it was the best what I ve read here...you really don't use ??? I cannot imagine whats happening with your face without an aftershave or balm...the best if you buy some
