What's new

Is this a Trac knockoff?

it's plastic with a shiny metallic strip on the top part of the handle. Also a lot of grooves for grip. I like the feel ok. You slide the handle in the dispenser and the cartridge attaches/clicks on. The nearest dollar general is a ways and the local wal-marts here don't stock the personna. So i think i'll just order some and see. If they don't fit I can always buy another handle.

It most certainly sounds like a Trac II to me. :thumbup1:

Last evening I found a plastic handle at the Dollarama that's a clone of the Trac II handle. The only difference is that this one is all plastic, no metal involved. I bought some Trac II Plus cartridges so now I'm good to go for those rushed mornings. For years I used Gillette Custom Plus 3 disposables (same exact blades as the Sensor 3). I plan on making the Trac II my ONLY cartridge razor from now on. Takes a few more passes than some other cartridge razors, but with much less irritation. :001_smile

It's definitely a Trac II style razor.

Blade choices I have tried include the Gillette blades (only available WITH the lube strip), the WalMart Personna blades ("Twin 2") which are sans lube strip, and the European market blades (with the green lube strip and the little thingy that allows you to clean out the area between the blades).

These are all pretty good cartridges. I find the Gillete and the Personna blades a little rough on the first shave, but pretty smooth thereafter, and they usually last me 5 shaves (I have a thick, tough beard). I can get the Gillette 10 for $10.99 at Bed, Bath, and Beyond but the Personnas are only $3.50 for a 10-pack at Wally World. The green lube strip carts are only available on line (for me) and they cost about a buck apiece (or slightly more).

I wish I could find the Gillette blade without the lube strip, but they are out of production.

Don't know about your neck of the woods, but here in NC all of our WalMarts have stopped carrying the ASR Twin II carts as of a few months ago. Too bad, as I HATE those lube strip things!!
