Newbie DE for head shave

Hi guys!

Just found out about this forum while searching about safety razor.

I need an advice to buy a safety razor,

I previously use cartridge shave ( gillette proglide 5 ) and wanted to move to safety razor since it is expensive to always buy the cartridge.

Can you help me recommend a good safety razor for head shave?

There are some that ive been eyeing
Parker 78 r and rockwell 6c

Other brand is really hard to get in my country, this is what i found in the market.

Parker 78r is half the price of 6c here, but i dont know whether it is good or not.

Thank you so much for the help!

Welcome to Badger & Blade!

Not sure where you are but it ought to be available most places, there's a Gillette Tech with a black plastic handle made in India that would be a good intro to DE for you. Hope it is still made ....

Henson ++. I shave in the shower 90% asleep and never nick myself. Easy transition from a cartridge razor.

Cant find this brand :(, but read a lot good things for that brand!

Sadly, this is not available in my country (Indonesia), based on the brand that i mentioned which one do you recommend? Beside that brand, most of the DE razor here is the cheap knockoff , i dont know whether it is good or not to buy them

I like the Rockwell 6C. I eventually moved on to the RazoRock Game Changer and Lupo, but the 6C is a great intro razor in my opinion. You have 6 different adjustment settings to dial in on your specific needs; you won’t use each of the settings but there’s a strong chance one or two of them will work for you.

Welcome to B&B! We're glad you're here.

I also shave my head, though I use different razors. I think it's always better to start with what you can find wherever you are. I also believe that between those two razors there's not a huge difference, so it comes down to whichever one seems to fit your hand and pleases you with the way it looks.

Considering the price difference and that you're just trying a double-edge for the first time I'd suggest the Parker. Parker makes a solid razor at an attractive price. Not fancy, but they work and for some people they work really well. While you're on the learning curve I think that's a good way to go.

Good luck with it! Sounds like you're off to a good start.

My exploding razor knows secrets
I now shave my head with every DE I can buy. In the beginning, I just used a $3 Tech clone made in China.

So I think it's okay to start with whatever razor you can buy; once you start, you'll figure out how you want to increase/decrease/or maintain your current selection.
Of course, using a cheap razor as an entry point can reduce losses when adjusting your choice or giving up.

Thank you for all of the suggestions,

Ending up to buy the rockwell and already tried shaving twice!

Use the number 3 and 5 , maybe the 6 later because its not aggressive enough,

Got a lot of stings using the aftershave, maybe the blade or my technique, but its getting there ,

Im using astra SP, wanted to try the astra SS, do you guys have any recdome recommendations for blade?

Play with it! I have one adjustable and I'm always adjusting it. Why buy one otherwise? But also you're getting a feel for what level of aggressiveness you prefer at the moment. Be aware, that will probably change as your technique settles in. I prefer slightly milder razors than I used to. Being able to back the razor off a little is also good if you're trying to let some nicks heal up from an overly aggressive shave.

Astra SP is my favourite blade. Has been for years. I have never used the SS but I hear that they may be sharper than the SP or at least may feel that way. At the moment I'm burning through a 100-pack of Dorco Prime blades. They're not bad; best Dorco blades, some say. But they're not Astras. :)
