Is this a Schick Krona?

I just received this razor today that I purchased on BST as a krona. I don't see anything identifying it as a Schick or Krona, just has a eagle on the TTO endcap, bottom plate razor head has engraved eagle, the word eversharp, corner numbers 4, 2, 5, M. I'm a newbie, so just making sure I got what was advertised as a Schick Krona.

Very nice! That should clean up well. Yes, it is of sorts a "Krona". The Schick Krona received its name because it was marketed with the Schick Krona and Krona-Chrome blades. Yours is an Eversharp who has owned Schick since 1945. The name Schick had become so popular in the United States that Eversharp never successfully migrated from its use even though it tried several times. That leads me to guess that yours was marketed outside of the US, but it is unmistakably still the classic metal Krona in all appearance beyond the Eversharp stamp and the eagle end tip.

Thanks AsylumGuido for the wonderful info. I just wanted to make sure of my purchase, you have put me at ease. This was purchased from a seller outside of U.S. so makes sense that it did not have "Schick" name anywhere.

Do you mind sharing where the seller is from or where he got it? I am very curious as I have never seen one of these before and as many here can attest, I love a good mystery.

Oh! And when you clean it up DO NOT boil it. The Krona handles cannot withstand that kind of heat. Use a foaming soap scum remover like Scrubbing Bubbles and coat it good and let it soak for a bit then scrub with a soft toothbrush using the leftover Bubble "juice". It should come out looking very nice.

Guido, you never cease to amaze me. I noticed that one of the two I have has the eagle, but I failed to take note of the Eversharp stamp. Now that I am comparing them, I notice the Schick has a black handle and the Eversharp has a gray handle.

I had to laugh at myself when I read this. I wish I had read this before I soaked two of my Schick razors, a black handled Krona and a dark blue Eversharp injector, in hot water poured from the teapot after it reached the boiling point. I am now the (not) proud owner of a mottled gray Krona and a mottled whitish-blue injector! Well, at least they still shave like new!

I screwed up a push button Gem with boiling water.

We should have a photo album here of all the "razor mis-haps"! On the other hand, it might be too upsetting to see all the nice razors either sent unnecessarily to an early grave, or maimed for life.

I like the eagle!

It depresses me every time I look at it. It still shaves fine, but will never be the same again. :frown:

Be careful with the scrubbing bubbles. The stuff very nicely removed the painted schick emblem and word at the bottom of the handle on a couple of mine. No problems other than that.

I was worried about that. I had one that the emblem on the bottom was partially off but I wasn't sure if I had done it or if it was like that when I got it.

FYI, got the razor from member "Maher" on B/S/T. He's located in Canada. The razor handle does have a gray color versus black color of US versions. When I first started with DE shaving few months back, had a Schick that my dad had lying around & as a newbie I boiled it in water, so you know the rest of the story (razor destroyed).

Nice catch! It is identical to the Schick Krona, but stamped as Eversharp. The Eversharp labeled Schicks in the 1970's were marketed in the US, as a more "upscale" line, it coincided with the marketing of their super sharp DE blades (the "convex edge"). THe razors are much less abundant compared to the ones labeled as Schick.

Looking at the two I have, I noticed some slight differences. If anyone cares, read on.

The Schick measures 10.36 cm. (All measurements are approximations. I haven't used calipers in a while.)

The Eversharp is 10.41 cm over all.

The plastic portion of the handle is 6.76 cm and the Eversharp is 6.45 cm.

The TTO is 1.5 cm on the Schick and 1.83 cm on the Eversharp.

That obviously points to not only a marketing difference, but a manufacturing difference.

I was surprised. I assumed the molds and die would be the exact same, just different ID stamps. I wonder if the difference in production date could explain it. Curse Schick for not releasing the date codes. :a31:
