What's new

is this a british NEW?

I´ve received this razor in green bakelite case. But what is it? New Improved, but you don´t can use the 3 hole blades. Goodwill or NEW, but with with pins? Any ideas? The Blade ist from 1945.

The only British NEW I was aware of (one I have) looks almost exactly like this one below from your site (difference in the cap, no cross lines there or the head). I have the razor, bought the case separately and am still waiting for it.

The one you show above seems unlikely to be classified as a NEW to me, as it has the pins plus lacks the bar and slot, two defining characteristics of the NEW as far as I know. I'd be more inclined to think of it more as a New Improved (seems to fit that most closely) though obviously, there are some bits not normally seen in that platform. I'll be interested to see what other more experienced guys here think!

ETA: But you say it can't take the 3 hole blade. So I guess it can't be a New Improved either. Strange indeed!

It is almost identical in design to a 1943 broad arrow razor that I have.
The broad arrow was the razor issued to English soldiers during WWII in their kit. It was made out of unplated zinc. I had a suspicion that Gillette made it, but I wasn't sure.

I wonder if this is the 1945 version.

I used to have a few DE with that handle... I think they were Gillettes and not mismatched... Looks like a NEW!

Similar to this one's handle and case.
Which I've been advised is a Brit New :001_smile
So guessing it is a standard Brit handle....the head.... dunnno

I think greybeard is right its a British military razor.

My guess is Gillette either made them unmarked during the war and then stamped and plated excess parts at the end of hostilities (1945) to get rid of them. Or Gillette bought out whoever did make them and was simply stamping their name onto the old parts (ie. The Gillette branded Valet Autostrops or Otto Roth razors)
