Is this a Barbasol Floating Head?

Can't seem to find much on this razor - it appears to have the same "look" as the floating head model, although the area is a bit different where the handle screws in. Curious if this is a plastic handled floating head or something else altogether.

I did find this thread which has the same razor pictured.

The pictures in this thread lead me to believe that it is possibly the same head as one of the Barbasols shown...perhaps the more aggressive "non-floating"?

Actually, the more I look at the pictures - I'm guessing it is the non-floating head - which is supposed to be reasonably wicked.

Don't know...just yet. I assume the black handle will come off...and hopefully allow me to replace it with a much better handle.

If the blade rest on the guard like most de's it would be a non floating (milder head)
If the blade stays up by the cap like an adjustable opened up its the floating head (more aggressive)
I,ve seen these but dont know for sure which it is.

Nope...apparently the handle does not come off; making this a 2 piece design. Here are a couple of pics of another black handle Barbasol posted some time ago.

Too bad about the non-removable handle - Kaiser on that would have been sweet. I look forward to seeing how it shaves, even with the light handle.

I have the same head on 2 different Barbasol razors. Don't know why it is called floating- but I will tell you- it is a very agressive razor. Most agressive DE I have ever used! I have one just like yours and another that is a 3 piece with a removable handle and a very heavy handle. I have only used the later.

Tom, I believe that is the non-floating head version you have. My basis is this picture. The floating head version has a circular section where the handle attaches to the bottom of the base plate; the non-floating head version has a squared off section.

It's called floating because in the floating version, the blade doesn't touch the safety bar. If you think the non-floating version is aggressive, you need to try out the Muhle 2011 R41. For me, the Barbasol is a 5 or 6 on the aggressiveness scale. The 2011 R41 is a 9.5 or 10.

I agree with James i have the floating head barbasol and my R41,Joris, and Mergress are all more aggressive than the Barbasol

James, he has a floating head. The handle is bakelite though.......Does your head do this?

I wish I had a decent camera and internet connection to put a picture up. My Barbasol 3 piece looks like the head with the bakelite handle- but the handle looks like something made from an old pipe or something. Maybe I will try to post a pic with my crummy equipment!
