What's new

Is there a Gold Merkur Progress?

I was looking on craig's list today for a straight razor and found something a little different. There is a Merkur Progress but it looks like it is gold with a white knob for the adjustments. And it's only $10!

I'll post the link and hopefully someone can tell me if this is real or what the deal is. I'll call the guy also and see what he has to say.

Here it is:

Can anybody give any insight....?

Yes, they made a gold one. You can still locate it on some German websites for big money (since it is new old stock). Grab that one up!

Alright, I should be going to look at it this afternoon. It looks really nice in the little picture so hopefully it looks that good in real life. I did call the guy, but he didn't give me much of any info about it. I don't think he knows what he really has.

I'll post back later saying if I got it or not and what it's like. :thumbup1:

Well if you dont want it buy it and Ill give you $15 for it :tongue_sm

Ok, who went and got it?? :001_tt2:

I called this afternoon when I was done with work, but the guy said he sold it. Now, it was posted April 4th, I just saw it two days ago and posted it here and now it's gone within that short time of posting. Coincidence...I think not!! :biggrin1:

Anywho, whoever got it, nice snag. I guess I'll keep my eyes peeled just like everybody else.

Ah yes the elusive Gold Progress.

$10? I think he forgot to add a zero to that number. I have a picture or two of mine. I'll post them when I find them.

I think the old adage "if it's too good to be true..." applies here.

The old now you see it, now you don't.

I have received numerous PMs about a post I made telling of a gold Merkur for sale that has since been removed.
I thought that only an active hyperlink was not allowed, and that mentioning the title was acceptable. For those that were upset, I am sorry. I honestly thought its mention was applicable to the thread.
I have since been redirected to the thread "Ebay sales listing and the letter of the law at B&B" posted by Jim.

I just joined this group of the Gold Progress. I should be getting mine shortly and Ill take pics once I receive it :001_cool:

Finally arrived. There is a plastic safety bar and adjustment nob.

Very nice Brian!
A word of caution: be very careful with the gold plating when you clean it. Mine has proven the be very fragile.
Also, Scrubbing Bubbles will take the paint out of the numbers, if you're not careful! :blushing:

Thanks for the heads up :thumbup1:. I will have to take extra care when cleaning.
