Is My Super Slim Fixable?

An F1 black handled Super Slim came into my possession a few days ago. The adjustment knob seemed to be stuck, but after ultrasonic jewelry cleaning and some scrubbing bubbles, it loosened up. Now it turns 3.5 times around when open. Not as much when closed. If it's not to the lower extreme, i can move the black plastic piece up and down with my finger.

Is this fixable? Or should I see if anyone needs it for parts? I have another one, not sure of the date code yet, with a handle that's a little different, more elongated stripes of texture rather than just crisscrossed all over like this one is.

Thanks

That's actually how it's supposed to work. When the razors is closed, the mechanism is bound up by the doors pressing on the base plate. When open the base plate is free to move.

When adjusted to "1" (lowest setting) the base plate has the ability to be sid upwards in the head, but when the doors are closed, the blade is pinched between the doors and the base plate. When adjusted to "9" (highest setting) the adjustment ring raises the base plate, increasing the blade gap. Again, when the doors are closed, the blade is pinched between the doors and the now raised base plate.

Hope that helps.

I wasn't very clear. Even when it's closed, I can move the base plate up and down with my finger. And I have two here, one works as it should, like my two other regular Slims, with 9 settings with clicks for each setting, turning from 1 to 9. But this one in question spins, when open, from 5, around past 5 again, around past 5 again, around past 5 again, up to 9. When closed, and I understand you're not supposed to adjust it when it's closed, it spins from 5, up around 5, and stops at 2.

It sounds like the spring which retains the adjuster knob is broken. That is the spring that you can see in the slot just above the adjuster knob.

Yeah, the piece that makes it click isn't there. Does this mean it's not fixable, and I should see if someone wants it for parts (or I could keep it for parts for my other one, maybe.

I know I had two garbage Fat Boys before and someone wanted them for parts. I never did get to shave with a Fat Boy :frown:

Probably not fixable, but there is the possibility something is in the slot orcing the spring inward. When the spring is pressed in through the slot the adjuster will turn unimpeded for several rotations.

Well I'll be, that piece is in there. Now to see if it's just gunked up and might come back out...

Nope, I can see it clearly now. That little piece of metal is wider at the top, I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. On my functioning one, it's all connected. In my broken one, the little "bulb" at the top is disconnected from the longer thinner part that comes down under the adjustment knob. It looks like it's a broken piece of metal. How that'd break, I don't know.

I guess this is still usable and adjustable, just adjustable to greater extremes than it was designed to be.

All righty. I broke the piece that clicks. It's in two pieces on my work bench. Wasn't easy getting that thing out, let me tell you. I'll just throw this razor in one of my boxes of shaving stuff and say heck with it.

Thanks for all the help, guys. I understand a little better how these things work now.
