What's new

Is it me or do I have a dead nose . . .

I have tried several fragrances from several different soap makes, including Tabac, and no one can detect a scent after I arrive at work! I know that soap does not have the power of a splash but I thought there would be a residual scent.

Any idears?

Most soap scents don't stick around long after you're finished shaving. It's mainly for the olfactory pleasure derived while in use. And the pleasure of Tabac... yummmmmmmm!

I saw someone else say this today (well, something along these lines) : It's scented so you 'smell something,' not so you 'smell like something.' If you like the scent of Tabac, try out their EDC or EDT. Then the scent should last all day.

Right. Soap is so that you smell something. Not so that you smell LIKE something.

In other words, it's to enjoy the shaving experience. Soap generally fades in 10 minutes, or the minute you apply after shave over it.

Aftershave generally fades after 20-30 minutes.

Cologne generally lasts 3-6 hours (less for citrus, more for Knize Ten)

There's a degree of perception in this... When you apply a cologne, you will 'get use to it' after a while and not smell it. I often smell the frangrance from my shirts when I do the laundry... I usually apply cologne on my shirts, no myself. Musgo is the best!

Hiya,

I've tried lots of soaps and creams over the years, and there's one in particular whose scent stays with me for a couple hours after my shave. That would be the QED 'Wild Rose' soap. The stuff is intense.......so much so that I can only use it on rare occasions. I have to really really feel like ROSE.......heh. I'll skip using any EdT that day, since none is needed.

Oh, unfortunately, this soap is not available for purchase anymore. It was part of a group buy a while back.

Great answers! Might as well buy unscented and dabble in colognes.

Yep, that's what I'll do. It's easy to mix a favorite scent into an unscented base. I buy the unscented AOS shaving cream(excellent stuff) and add whatever EdT I feel like sniffing. I'll only use a small amount from the tub, so that the rest is still without any scent.

I'm not sure how much fragrance can be added before any sort of irritation might result, so the scent may not stick around all that long. However, you don't have to worry about applying the EdT after the shave and not having it match properly.

When I used Trumper rose shaving soap and had people (e.g., girlfriend, sister, etc.) stick their noses right up to my face, they said I smelled like an old lady. So, some soaps can leave a residual smell, but even with those, it's only going to be evident to those who sniff you in an invasive way. If you're looking to have an impact on those a polite distance away, actual cologne-type fragrances are in order. Be aware, though, in our current social climate, a lot of people frown on fragrances in the workplace. Be very judicious with how you apply it, or you might be getting a reputation of which you are not aware and do not desire.

Arguably, if you have a dead nose, that's you too.

Like everyone else has said, soap fragrance seems to be mainly for the moment of the shave. Aftershave can vary greatly. I'm personally not a cologne person though.

Horatio: I like to stop strangers and say: "Smell me." As well as everyone in the office. Mixed results.

you are washing it off when you rinse your face.. There are two kinds of cosmetic products.. leave on and wash off. Follow your soap up with a matching EDT or aftershave.
