Is Ingram an inferior product or is it my technique?

On impulse I ordered a tube of Ingram from Amazon (as I had about $4 left on a gift card). I used it for the first time today and was very unimpressed. I am still a wetshaving newbie, but I have been doing a rather decent job of face lathering with Proraso, Palmolive, and TOBS Sandalwood.

Using the same basic amount of product, same temp water, same brush, etc., etc., I barely got any lather today from the Ingram. And the lather left in the brush for my second pass was even worse. I will give it a second chance in a few days, but my initial impression is not positive.

Also, less than impressed with the olfactory aspects. Ingram contains menthol, but has a cheaper sort of smell than the Proraso.

Any thoughts here or experience with Ingram?

Do you know if you have the British made Ingrams or Egyptian made Ingrams? I had the Egyptian one and never experienced any issues. I would suggest using more product and do a few bowls of lather before your next shave.

ay, me thinks it has to do with the technique as I had to adjust for each new product. try face lathering so you can feel the texture build and change with the addition of water. many hard & soft soaps & creams. my go to is arko. the palmolive is nice as well, i read good reviews and plan on trying a stick soon.
maybe more or less water. I'd need pics to decipher

Ingram cream is good stuff. Use more cream and whip it longer.

It's also not meant to please the nose. It's the equivalent of a 99 cent product in the UK.

Edit: Did you get the green or blue? The green tube is brushless.

It's a great economy cream, the Egyptian formula has a more potent menthol punch ,I get very nice lather with both, just adjust your water/cream ratio and give the lather time to build...

Hmm. All good points. I have the blue and I believe that it is the English product, although I will check the tube to be sure.

I will definitely give it another try and see if I get better results with more product, longer lathering, etc.

I wouldn't call it an inferior product but it isn't a luxury product either. It is a decent cream that performs well enough for me to finish the tube but not enough to reorder.

I've used Ingrams cream on and off for several years. No probs at all. As the guys say it aint no lux cream but a great English cheap 'n' cheerful one. I find as a face lather you need to use a little more and work it a little longer.

Agreed, nothing inferior about the product. Lathers well and refreshing on a warm morning. Excellent value for money.
