Irritation

Forgive my newbie post... I have only been using a DE for a couple of days now. Is irritation in the early goings normal? How much is too much? I guess I am asking because maybe it is my technique and I am doing something wrong? Even a little while after shaving I have some irritation.

One of the things I was taught to do was that if there is any pulling or bouncing on the skin, to make the angle steeper. I know the best angle is as close to 30 as you can get. That said, I don't feel like I'm putting any pressure on. Perhaps I need a lighter touch?

However, is it possible that even if I do anything right, since I am so new to this and since I have been shaving so bad for so long, is it possible that I would have irritation anyway?

Angle and pressure.
Of the two, I'd say pressure is the hardest to master.
It seems with a cart people want to put more pressure on the blade.
With a DE it takes some time to hit that sweet spot.

Keep at it. Ask questions and check out the newbie forum.

Hold the handle of the razor farther away from the floor. Change the angle as you move so it stays the same, even on the curves. Lighten up the pressure. Make a better lather.

In short, a little irritation is normal when starting out. Shaving with a DE is a skill that must be learned through practice.

I highly agree with Marc. Those transitioning from carts to DE, the toughest of the concept to grasp is pressure (should we say lack there of). You'll get it with practice.

I am using a Parker DE with Persona blades, and a Parker badger brush. I am using CO Bigalow cream, witch hazel, and some aftershave (brand name escapes me at the moment).
