Well it has finally arrived after almost nearly a month of waiting. I just received my Semogue 2000 from The Vintage Scent. I haven't seen much on it around here as its little brother, the 1305, seems to get more press, and it seems like a real shame. I haven't used it yet, but it is an extremely handsome brush. So, without further ado, may I present the newest member of my den...
As you can see, the 2000 easily dwarfs my only other boar, the Omega #10077. This picture hardly does the 2000 justice by the way. That handle is beautifully lacquered Portuguese Beech, and is separated from the knot with a brushed aluminum ring. It's beautiful, ruggedm has a nice heft to it.
So here are my two boars with the rest of the crew, a Tweezerman badger brush, and an Ever-Ready C40 that I restored with with a 22mm finest badger knot with extra hair from The Golden Nib. The knot on the C40 has a loft of 60mm like the Semogue 2000, but is still ever so slightly dwarfed by the 2000's 25mm diameter knot.
And finally a bird eye's view of my brushes. As with the last picture, from left to right is my Tweezerman, Ever-Ready C40, Semogue 2000, and my Omega #10077.
All in all, I'm looking forward to breaking this baby in over the next few weeks. I'm quite impressed with Semogue's craftsmanship, and if others' experiences with the slightly smaller 1305 are any indication, it should prove to be one heck of a nice boar brush.
