Years ago I bought this 1939-40 Sears catalog off of ebay. This morning I scanned some interesting selections:

That is really cool. It's funny to think that 70 years ago guys probably looked at those ads like we look at the Gillette Fusion commercials today. And here we are drooling wishing we could order that stuff in 2012.

My Mom says all the crap they had for men's hair back then would leave stains on her mother's couches and bed pillows. Her brothers (my uncles) were always getting scolded for doing that back in the 40's and 50's.

amazing stuff ! wonder what brand is the lilac water ? I miss lilac water,it was popular even up to the 1960's....single edge blades were really popular then, what a great selection of shaving goods...please note - the "stim-u-vac" is still manufactured today, but for use on the lower extremities......

Very cool. Those prices, though, seem a little high. Those major companies sure were into ripping off their customers back then.

Way Cool! I gotta get me one of them there Stim-U-Vac's ! "Also operates from suction of vacuum cleaner" GIDDY UP!:c15:

Great stuff! Thanks for posting this. Love the design and look of old catalogs like this. Look at the prices on those Gillettes!

Wow... pricing is pretty consistent... shave creams are about the same as a DE razor, brushes 2-4x that, but straights were quite a bit higher, and strops were cheaper.

Would be fun to run those prices into the CPI to get current values.
