What's new

In Lexington KY what to get?

Of course there's the old stand by's of Black Maple Hill and Woodford, but since I'm down here for a week, any recommendations for the multitude of new bourbons out there? I'm guessing that most of them are actually from the old distilleries currently. I see Woodford has a Rye out that looks interesting but it's a bit spendy. Trying to keep the price under $70 or so. Though I might be tempted if I find a bottle of old pappy, which surprisingly I haven't found down here yet.

You should be pretty easily able to find Elijah Craig 18 y.o. at either Liquor Barn. Black Maple Hill may or may not be in stock, but I certainly second that recommendation. You won't find Pappy, I'd wager. Four Roses Single Barrel is worth a look, though some batches are better than others. If you're looking for something that you're not afraid to throw a mixer in every once in a while, but is still worth drinking neat, look at the Weller "Special Reserve" (their regular 7 year, not the 12). It's a fantastic value, and my typical house bourbon.

Ask an employee there for recommendations, as well. I've come across some nice ones that way. Enjoy the Bluegrass!

Lol I'm a frequent at the liquor barn. I have some craig (12 y I think) already at home. Tempted by the woodford rye that they have. I have until Friday to decide so I'll be making a trip to the larger barn in the next few days as currently I'm only close to the older small one.

I've had that too and frankly it's really hit and miss. Sometimes it is actually fairly good, potent but good, other times it's like rubbing alcohol (which it probably is). All the distilleries are doing a version of moonshine these days anyways it seems.
