What's new

In Denver for a conference

Any suggestions on where I should try and eat? I am staying downtown at the Sheraton and am without a car, so anything "easy" to get to would be preferable. It seems like there are plenty of choices in this area, but it also seems like there may be a few tourist traps along the way (besides the obvious places like Hard Rock). So far my research has me heading to Cafe Berlin at some point, as the DC Metro area seems to lack German options for some reason. Thanks for the suggestions.

It's a chain restaurant, but Ted's Montana Grill is amazing.

First let me preface this by saying I have only ever been to Denver in a "work" capacity as we have an office there I occasionaly go to.

That said here are a few places I have been exposed too.

Probably a tourist trap, but the Buckhorn Exchnage isn't far from you I think. I'd suggest walking over and eat a dog while you watch the Rockies, but I think they are out of town this week. I also had some pretty good Thai at Thai Basil close to downtown. One of my friends took me to a Pho house on Federal street that was very good and I have also been taken to the Texas de Brasil (brazillian steakhouse) which was very good.

Have fun and try not to get a headache. As a visiting low-lander I get a splitting head-rocker almost every time I go.

What kind of food are you looking for?

Illegal Pete's for excellent burritos, like Qudoba or Chipotle, but much better.

Tilted Kilt for a Hooters like atmosphere with better food.

Le Central is good for French food.

Earl's has great steaks, on the 16th st mall.

Sushi Sasa, for sushi of course, and it is real close to REI if you are into that thing, it is a huge store and very cool.

On the corner of 15th and Platte St there is a place called My Brother's Bar, there is no sign, the door opens facing the corner. Great burgers and great place to get a beer or other beverage. One of the oldest bars in Denver.

Just down from My Brother's Bar is a place called Proto's Pizza. Good pizza and excellent desserts.

Marlowe's on the 16th st. mall is good, menu is always changing, fresh food and featured chefs, great food.

I have lived in Denver for about 4 years now and I don't spend much time downtown. I could point you in the right direction in the mountains for some good eats there though. Cherry Creak area has some more good restaurants and it is not far from downtown.

I avoid chain restaurants as much as possible and I like to eat, these are some of the best places I have been. I will try to come up with some more if I can. Good luck.

From the Sheridan, I would either do Marlowe's or Earl's. They are the closest and great food at both.

Texas de Brazil.....and bring your stretchy pants. The best brazilian steakhouse I've been to and I've been to many.
