i hone my own razors. i have for many years. i have several friends who are now straight shaving and they bring their razors for me to hone-one even bought me a norton combo stone! one friend was bringing me his high end razor to hone 2-3 times a month....iafter he brought it to me today i asked him to show me how he stropped his razor. he was dragging the edge of the razor-hard to describe unless u witnessed it. but he was dulling the razor when he stropped. have many others experienced or witnessed this problem?

Moving to the Stropping forums...
I'm brand new to Str8 razors and I'm probably doing the same. It's hard to go by videos and word of mouth and get it right. There is nothing like hands on instruction and review to get feedback about technique, how much pressure to use and speed. In a couple of shaves I've managed to nick my new strop a few times and I pretty much have no clue except perhaps the sound of the stropping motion. Try to give your friends some in person lessons. I sure wish I had someone to help that way.
I got some good advice.....I started out laying the strop flat on the table and stropping spine first and then trying to emulate that motion on the hanging strop. It has worked well for me and saved my strops from destruction. LOL
