Imagine if Gillette Reissued DE Razors Today?

I am not sure, is the beard considered part of your "grill"? I am imagining diamonds and "spinners" (not quite sure how that would work just yet, I am sure they have "good men" working on it.) I have a feeling even if they made one, it would not be for the US market, not sure where DE is still popular.

haha i guess "blingy" wasn't what i meant, more like gadgety......or bells and whistly......or pretty much what someone else said, about vibrating and blah blah blah. they'll try and put a futuristic spin on an old tool......Seems to me there's only so much upgrading you can do to something like a de.

Do you already have april fools day in the USA?
I think that it is most unlikely that Gillette will issue something like the SS again. And don´t they still make DEs even if these are just cheap plastic DEs for the foreign market, something like those Gillettes with a plastic handle that replaced the SS in the 1980`s?
If they should ever issue a DE on the US market it will surely be something like that.

you never know, P&G is one of the biggest companies and it they put their strengths behind this we would all benefit

see it this way, DE shaving is a niche market right now, Gillette already dominates the masses, it would make sense from a business perspective to overtake Shick by grabbing the niche markets as well,

i am also pretty sure that if this were to be done Gillette would not half *** it because it wont be "the best a man can get", that being said i still doubt it will happen

If it does happen, I have a feeling it will be a cheap thing, a la Wilkinson Classic. I doubt they will invest millions. In fact, they might just re-market the Gillette Knack, or something like that. I believe it is still available in parts of asia under the Gillette Rubie label?

First of all, I have a hard time believing they will do it. BUT! If they do I bet it will look very much like a Fusion, the same combination of space looking metal and plastic. IMHO.

It's a joke guys, this isn't going to happen. Unless it is specially made for some major celebrity who is into DE shaving. I don't know where this rumor came about but my bets are this thread will be closed soon. Until there's some real information on this, don't get your hopes up. One thing however is that I'm sure Gillette realizes that they've gone a bit overboard with this Fusion (has anyone shaved with this thing? It's terrible for 2 days in a row), and now I think they will copy Schick and put an edging blade or some sort of trimmer at the end and market that out. Their biggest market is young men in their 20s and 30s. DE is just not going to happen from a business and marketing point of view.

Due to growing popularity among young shavers,
A statement expected tuesday morning from Procter & Gamble, gillettes parent company is expected to announce the reissuing of several models, including an adjustable model called "Slim Boy", a basic model called "Mach Speed" and a "Empire" class luxury set that will come in Gold, Silver and Chrome plating in a special leather kit, prices yet to be announced but it is rumored that the new razors will be priced around 10 U$D for the basic range, 20 U$D for the adjustable, and rangring from 50U$S to 300 U$D for the luxury empire class razors,

the announcement as stated before is expected on Tuesday April 1st,

Personally the vintage aspect is a big part of the enjoyment for me. Not that I won't buy a new gillette, but most likely it will just be to have it.

Start buying as many derby's, feathers and merkur blades as you possibly can! Say goodbye to those cheap prices you're used to once the new Gillette DE hits the market...hahahahahaha

:lol::lol::lol:

another thought occurs ... people may think making new Gillettes would be attractive because of the eBay prices the old ones get ... but those old ones are getting such high prices in part because there are no new ones! So if new ones flood the market, prices go down. (Plus, the old ones have a 'collectible as antique' value lost for a new one.)

Gillette needs to look at two potential markets for the re-introduction of DE handles:

First is the Collector community, which is rather small, that would be willing to spend $100+ for Limited Editions and Anniversary Issues and Specialty Products.

More important, from a marketing standpoint, is the much larger (and growing rapidly) community of Daily Users. These are the people that would grab up a quality product (whether its a re-issue or a new design) in the under $50 range.

If I were an executive at a razor manufacturer, I would target the Daily User much more aggressively than I would the collector. They will be able to sell a lot more $50 razors than they will the $100 and up collectibles.
The name of their game is "Make a Profit," and "Volume" is the key to winning.

All this assumes, of course, that they put out a well built DE product, and not some cheap plastic knock-off. Yes, the actual factory will probably be outsourced to Asia ... but that doesn't mean that they can't do the job right and produce something that we'd all like to own.

They have the technology. They know how to do it. Unfortunately, whether or not they actually do make a new DE will be a decision made my spreadsheets and CPAs, not nostalgic people like us who are seeking a Retro / Classic / Vintage lifestyle.

I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for this to happen. Gillette is aware of the wetshaving community, and if they wanted our business, they would have done something about it by now.

they really might you know, I've seen so much specialist shaving equipment come out recently: AOS, edwin jagger and Merkurs on amazon and mankind.com.
