What's new

I'm being forced to return to a cartridge for half the year

The powers that be in my work have decided I'm going to be working offshore from now on. I've just got back to the beach after my first hitch but was given a warning when I went out to the rig. Apparently I'm not going to be allowed back on the chopper with open blades again ( despite the fact they are in my bag in the cargo hold). I'm a mechanic and have access to sharp blades when I'm working so it's a stupid rule but it must be obeyed! So the question is do I just dust off my old M3 power or should I invest in a sensor/other? I work in a harsh enviroment (the sea freezes in the middle of winter:scared:) so I need something mild on the face. All suggestions welcome.

I wish I had something better to offer you. But all I have is sounds like a memorable job! Choppers, freezing seas, off shore? All I can say is wow and good luck.

Quit your job and find something else.

In all seriousness, though, I wish I had some advice. I would follow what Lou said and see if the blades can be mailed.

Mailing isn't an option. The only way is a cartridge or disposable I'm afraid. I've seen GII carts in the shops but I can't remember ever seeing the handles for sale.

Get yourself a Valet Autostrop....and sneak one blade....they wouldn't even recognize the valet blade anyway!! One blade will last a long, long time!

Unfortunately, GII handles aren't available in stores anymore (at least not where I live). But you can order NOS Gillette handles from dridiot in Singapore. I bought mine from him, the GII is my alternative razor for when I don't have a DE available. I like it.

Interesting situation. How would they feel about a Schick Injector? Of course, if you don't have one already, you may not have time to get one before you leave, and they might decide that those blades are too dangerous too.

Yes, tracII/GII or Atra/Contour might be good. Or even lower your standards and get an electric. I assume you can charge it somewhere.

I could use an electric but as I say the conditions are harsh so I don't want to irritate my face anymore than I need to. Beards are also a no-go due to H2S and needing to be clean shaven so a respirator can seal on my face if I need one.

Either the Trac II, as mentioned, or the Sensor Excel. Both give excellent shaves. Cartridges for Trac II are less expensive. I think both are a far cry better than the M3, but YMMV. Sensor Excel is my favorite of the cartridge razors.

Ask the pilot to bring your Feather DE`s:wink:

I've looked at all the posts here so far. It looks like you may be SOL, but asking the pilot just may work, and you've got nothing to lose by asking. Good luck. :001_tongu

P.S. Perhaps you could explain to the powers that be, how hard it would be to take over an entire rig with a DE blade. :scared: :001_tt2:

Just got my trac 2 handle from dridiot which came with 5 blades, also bought some blades from tesco & asda and some gillette blades, used once so far and far better than any razor out there and next week its just jumped the que in my rotation, i hope you have a good trip.

Schick Injector. Looks like a cartridge razor, shaves great, and anybody stupid and timid enough to ban DE blades will be too droolingly slow and half-witted to recognize the blade dispenser. I think the dispenser I got at the Post Exchange holds eleven blades, good for about that many weeks of shaves.
