Idea regarding "razorless" shaving cream

Well, as like many others I've seen on this site...I have trouble getting a close shave on my neck, even with the best of blades and various Gillette models. If I do, I may draw a little blood.

I was in a pharmacy last week and saw "Razorless" shaving cream and they also sell Men's Nair for your face. The Nair I'll probably avoid because I know my wife has used it and it smells horrible.

I am contemplating picking some up for an experiment on my neck Has anyone else ever tried this stuff or am I in store for some kind of burning/smelly/skin-pealing experience?

I would never use it on my face, I get great shaves on my face...but the under-chin/neck area doesn't seem to be very easy to get a good shave with, and I've been trying for many months. My technique seems fine for the rest of my face...so I just can't figure out why I can't get my neck to BBS.

Worth the try or do you have any good neck tips?

Have you done a four pass system on your neck? Have you tried method shaving? I contemplated lazering the part of my neck that ALWAYS has irritation but that would be... well... giving in.

I know of a lady that uses the razorless creams and she has rave reviews.

Taking away the razor in a shave is like getting on the internet without a computer. Or eating raw Top Ramen. Kind of defeats the purpose.

If your skin on your neck is at all sensitive, I wouldn't recommend this: the chemicals are quite harsh, and can result in chemical burns. You are also prevented from using any scented products (according to another thread) after using these products, since they may cause a chemical reaction, that would then cause a skin burn.

My advice: STAY AWAY!! :eek::eek:

These products are for the unfortunates who can't shave because of serious razor bumps etc. You want to avoid them if you can shave.

and finally determined that i was organizing my passes incorrectly

i thought that shaving chin to shoulders was with the grain - turns out that my neck hair grows the opposite way on the bottom half of my neck, and there's an area in the middle that grows out from the center

so now i do two passes with absolutely NO PRESSURE from bottom to top (which is going with, or slightly across the grain for most of the neck) and then touch ups going from the ears inward and from top to bottom

result = much closer shave and zero irritation

i would really recommend taking a close look at growth patterns - it's been said over and over, but it certainly helped me

I usually do WTG, ATG and XTG...usually the nicks start on the XTG 3rd pass. I do lather each pass too.

Good points, I was wondering if scraping the cream off with a razor would be a full-proof plan though! :w00t:

I don't think it's too sensitive, but if I do 4 passes on my neck, it starts to get slightly razor-burnt and my AS stings a little. I don't get any sting on my face.

I never get bumps...so maybe they're not designed for me. I know they're not actually...just trying to get this neck shaving down.

I'll have to try this. Thanks.

Also, I just saw yesterday that someone on here was recommending DIAGONAL passes. I had never thought of this. I tried it last night and this morning...seems to get a little closer but still not completely there yet. Also gave me a slight razorburn too!

I WILL FIGURE THIS OUT SOMEDAY.

You may need to just accept that you can't get a perfectly smooth shave on your neck without blood/irritation. There are just too many angles on the neck, you might have to become satisfied with "excellent" instead of "perfect".

I would imagine it's the exact same thing as Nair, a depilatory, just packaged differently.

I have the same problem with getting a close shave on my neck. Try turning your head to one side and tilt your head back further to naturally stretch and flatten your neck.

Taking me a while but I finally got a good 2 pass shave on my neck today without hardly any irritation and less missed spots.

I'll definitely try that, the neck stretching.

This morning, I actually got my best-ever neck shave with a new pass sequence.

I went up diagonally right to left, then diagonally left to right, then a pass going top to bottom, then bottom to top, then finished it off with a straight right to left and left to right touchup passes. 6 TOTAL passes!

It's smooth, not perfectly smooth, but better than I ever achieved. I used my Tech with a Wally World Personna blade. I didn't want to try that many passes with one of my sharper blades. No irritation or blood at all. Didn't take too long but 6 passes seems like too many to get a good neck shave. I think I'll forget about trying the Man-Nair.

Maybe with the neck stretching and a sharper blade, I'll be there.

Spoken like a true Philadelphia fan!

No. :wink2:

After realizing my hair didn't grow how I thought it did. I modified the passes on my neck for two WTG passes, and two XTG passes. Irritation has been minimized, but I still can't get the shave I want. One of these days, I will defeat that stubble.:mad3:
