What's new

New Guy from Kentucky

I swear I’ve been thinking about switch from carts to a DE for a year. A few weeks ago I made the leap.

I am starting out with a Merkur Mk34c, feather blades and a choice between The Art of Shaving cream and Barrister and Mann Bay Rum soap.

All I can say is wow. While I’m still learning, the experience of the DE shave is so much more enjoyable.

I’m still struggling a bit to get a good lather, especially with the soap. I’m sure I’ll figure it out. And I get a bit of burn on my neck. Again, I’ll figure it out.

I’ve never used an aftershave in my entire life (I’m 48). Looking forward to experimenting with them.

Glad to have found this forum. Shaving has become a new hobby for me. Others don’t seem to understand, lol…

Welcome to B&B. I love KY. NJ born, but went to college in KY in the 1960s, and married a KY gal. Eventually moved back to NJ for jobs in the 70s. Still married after 55 years, but a daughter with health problems kept us from our goal of retiring there. Our vacations with kids & grandkids were always spent in KY. Love KY & people there.

Where do you vaca in KY? We are in Louisville. I haven’t explored much of the state, aside from some of the state parks - which were nice. I’m originally from OH, 6 years now in KY.

I went to college at Bellarmine. Louisville (4th Street) in the early-mid 60s was like the wild west at that time. Talk about culture shock coming from NJ. My wife is originally from J-town, where we lived for a couple of years in the 70s. We eventually moved to Florida and back to NJ because of our daughter's allergies. My wife still has family in surrounding KY counties, which we visited, until covid

I still love that area of the country. The 3 hour Mammoth Cave tour is a must see, as is My Old KY Home near Bardstown. Bardstown also used to have a Confederate Civil War "museum", which was small but interesting.

I think the Twig & Leaf restaurant on Bardstown Rd and Douglas, may still be open. It was there when I started college in 1964.

Welcome!
I like you had never used aftershave until I fell in this rabbit hole. Now I can’t live without them and use them sone mornings when I don’t shave.

Welcome. I never used to wear aftershaves either. I recently bought Floid that a lot here use and I really like it. It's not too strong which I would despise. And I recently bought a new soap, Razorock Santa Maria del Fiore and like the scent so much that I placed an order for the aftershave.
What a rabbit hole. :eek2:

A trip on the Belle of Louisville is also a must. I have picture of the Belle that I took in the early 70s, with infrared film, framed and hanging in my computer room. It was taken on a sunny day, but the sky is dark and the red trim is gold.

We‘ve done the long mammoth cave tour twice. It’s excellent. We’ve done a few of the shorter ones too.

We are in Mt Washington, so close to Bardstown. I’ll add some of your suggestions to our exploration list, thanks!

Eventually I’ll do the Belle of Louisville too. Once the weather breaks.
