I want to build a dog house

so I got the crazy idea of trying to build a dog house for my faithful canine buddy and was wondering if any of you have made your own dog house? if so, are there any decent online sources for free dog house blueprints? I took woodworking in high school but haven't really done anything since, but i'm fairly certain a task such as building a dog house shouldn't be as hard as it sounds. I suppose I could try and draw up my own blueprints to get a general idea of what I want, but it sounds easier to find something basic online

If you have a medium sized dog

1 sheet of plywood, 1 8' 2x2, a circular saw, dozen screws, and a couple of shingles and you are in.

Unless you are Paris Hilton then they cost $325,000

When you get the design finished can you post a picture of it here? That way the next time I tick off SWMBO I can get started on my new abode.

Regards, Todd

i don't have plans per se, but when my dad built a house for our dog once upon a time, he built it much like a normal house would be built-- by that i mean joists in the floor, studs in the walls, etc.

i believe it was probably 3' wide x 4' long x 3' high with a 1' doorway. he put 2x4s spaced roughly 1' apart as the base of the floor and covered that with a sheet of plywood. he built walls with 2x4 studs roughly 18" apart, capped top and bottom with another 2x4, and with basic insulation in between. the roof was shingled and sloped back away from the door. the whole thing weighed probably 150 lbs by the time he was done, but it was pretty solid and held up to all kinds of weather.

this is the approach I plan on taking. the one thing I want to avoid is building a dog house the way Homer Simpson built his bird house

the dog house wouldn't be used to permanently keep our dog outside. he's always been an indoor dog and will continue to be one, however, I figured it would be good for him to have his own little 'pad' as it were if it's nice outside.
