I Smell Like Indian Food

I tried a sample of Cartier Declaration today.

On me, all that stands out are the notes of coriander and ginger and other spices. I smell like a plate of Indian food. Not that I have anything against Indian food, but not as a cologne.

I'll take a pass on this one. Perhaps it smells better on people with a different body chemistry.

Whenever I come home from work, and my colleagues and I went to an Indian place for lunch, my wife makes me change cloths asap - she cannot stand the smell (stink for her) of Indian food still stuck in them, so this would be a very bad choice for me.

I agree I can't wear Declaration and other scents that smell like an indian kitchen. Nice scents, just not what I want to smell like. I feel similarly about Divine L'Homme Sage which is very saffron to me.

It's Dior eau Niore that does this on me. The immortelle creates a strong fenugreek note that really smells like a curry house

A common complaint with this one. Another one I ran into this problem with was Kenzo Sport. It smelled like cumin and curry or something on me.

It has cardamom in it as well and that gives it the Indian Restaurant association. At first I loved it; especially the fruity opening but ended up giving it away after just a day or two.

Better stay away from Parfums d'Empire's Fougere Bengale. Otherwise you'll smell like you've been cooking Chicken Tikka Masala all day.

I love Indian food. But I simply can't stand the smell of the spices on the clothes, mine or someone else's. Go figure...

Somewhere there's a guy in India saying, "I tried Eau de Whatever, and I smell like a burger joint. Don't get me wrong, I love a good lamburger and some fries, just not as a cologne."

Interesting. Cartier's Declaration is one of the best fragrances in my collection, probably Jean-Claude Ellena's masterpiece :thumbup1:. I take it your not a fan of spicy oriental's. You could try Terre d'Hermes by the same perfumer. It is as good but without the overtly spicy dry down which I think is what is putting you off Declaration. I'm Indian, just curious as to what Indian food you guys eat that makes you smell like a curry house? I've never eaten anything that smelt like my bottle of Declaration!:biggrin1:

I've got the TdH parfum and it's my favorite fragrance. With Declaration, my skin brought out the spices and nothing else. It was all coriander and ginger and cardamom with none of the woody notes. It smelled great to me when spayed on paper, but was not good on me. No offense intended toward Indian food, although I'm not enough of an expert on that cuisine to put my finger on what dish reminds me of Declaration.
