... first BBS!
Last night I stopped into Pasteur's Pharmacy on the Upper East Side in Manhattan and scored the new formulation of Proraso soap (only $7.50!) and a pack of 7 o'clock blacks, Russian blues, Indian greens, RP Pesonnas, and Feathers.
When I returned home I realized that I had forgotten to check out if Pasteur's sells Witch Hazel, so I restrained myself from shaving that night and decided to search for some Thayer's the next day (today).
I knew that GNC and the Vitamin Shoppe would sell Thayer's, but I decided to check out every local pharmacy and beauty store before heading to GNC and Vitamin Shoppe.
I walked into a local beauty store, and while they didn't have Thayer's, they did have a small section dedicated to shaving supplies which included Proraso soap (green and white), cream (green and red), pre-shave cream (green and white), green aftershave, and what appeared to be a couple of boxed Edwin Jagger brushes (although I didn't open them up to check it out). All were fairly priced.
Being the sucker that I am, I picked up the green pre-shave cream, rationalizing that I ought to support local businesses, and I also managed to score the cucumber Thayer's at GNC.
I just got done with my shave, having prepped with a hot towel and the pre-shave cream. I followed Marco's tutorial on loading and face-lathering Italian soft soaps and went to town with my HD and a Gillette 7 o'clock black.
Hands down, I just had the best shave of my life! I found the Proraso soap to be significantly slicker than the C.O. Bigelow cream, and the 7 o'clock black is by far the best blade that I've ever used (the previous champion being the 7 o'clock Russian greens). I only had two days of growth, but it sliced my whiskers sharply and smoothly, leaving my face BBS and feeling lovely from the tingling sensation of the Proraso soap and pre-shave cream (which I haven't said much about, but I think it's a fine product that helped soften my whiskers, although I will shave without it on my next blade in order to compare). I finished with a splash of Thayer's Cucumber, which felt refreshing, too.
I can sense that shaving is about to get really luxurious, and while fine product and technique have contributed to such a wonderful shave, I really owe it all to the community here, because you guys have guided me exceptionally on my newfound shaving journey.
Thanks for being so great, gents!
