I Quit Being Fat

Around late December of 2009 I decided I was ready to get serious and do something about my health. I weighed in at 238.4 and am 5'10" tall.

I changed my diet in January and about 8 or 9 weeks ago I started running with the C25K program. It worked and I've finished the program and come a long way from struggling with jogging for 60 seconds to consistently running 5k in 30 minutes.

I've dropped to 195, am still losing weight and have gone from wearing 42x32 pants to 34x32. My goal is 30x32.

I'll keep running 5k four times a week and in mid May, when my daughter gets out of school for the summer, start working on 10k.

I guess I just needed to share this with the B&B group.

Good job! I'm about 5'10" and I guess I'm about 235 or so, down from 290 something a couple years ago. Would love to go the extra bit and get to 200 or so, but that's my next battle. Losing the 60 pounds I did was an absolute lifechanger for me. Glad to hear you're feeling better and I hope you reach any further goals you have.

wow!

what sort of diet do you follow?

I put away all of the diets that didn't work and realized I needed a life long change in my eating habits. I didn't want to do something that was untenable in the long run like weighing food, going to meetings or referring to a book.

To start, I increased my green vegetable intake, dropped my sodium intake, made sure no portion was larger than my fist and began eating breakfast.

I eat a good breakfast, a small snack, a small lunch and a moderate dinner. On weekends I move the mid morning snack to evenings since I am up later at night. The daily breakdown per day is 4 vegetable, 3 protein, 2 starch, 2 fruit and 2 dairy servings per day. Dairy is always low or no fat. I use low fat mayo and more mustard and horseradish as condiments.

Great job Tim! Last July I decided to do the same thing. I was 230 and am currently 195. I love to eat, so running is my weapon in weight loss. Ultimately, I would love to be 175-180. Keep up the great work!

Congrats from a Baton Rouge neighbor. I have a long way to go this time. My doctor pronounced me a diabetic last fall and ordered me to limit all sorts of things for the diet he wants me to follow. I've been largely unsuccessful so far, but a decade ago I was able to trim 57 pounds in just four months.

Great job!! It sounds like you are doing it the correct way.....I for one can't "diet" and want to do what you have done. I just need to motivate myself!! It certainly takes a change in lifestyle.

Having dropped a lot of weight a few years back, my sincerest congratulations go out to you. Both for the accomplishment, and for committing to it in the first place.

I'd never heard of the C25K program before, but a Google search fixed that pretty quick!!!:001_cool:

I'll be checking into it and see how my knees handle it. (I've had cartilage surgery on both.)
