I`ve got 100ml white birch tar essential oil arriving today so it`ll take me less than five minutes to put it in a liquid castile soap base and I can add lime to it for shaving or shampoo.
It`s very expensive but worth it - I`m a medical herbalist so I have a lot of concretes, absolutes and eo`s.
It`s a bit like Wrights coal tar soap but much more versatile and efficacious.

Just to enlighten and illustrate I wrote this recently -

As a medical herbalist I am making Russian white birch tar soap today - just waiting for the 100ml essential oil drop this afternoon - a bit dear at $125 a bottle - but well worth it - It`ll make a lot of soaps, shampoo, hair conditioner, massage oil and skin medicine plus can be used as an insect and rat / mouse / cat / dog repellent and a lovely air freshener - all in one!

To quote - "As a cosmetic ingredient, birch tar can be found in skincare products for oily, combination and problem skin. It helps to eliminate acne, relieves inflammation, unclogs and tightens pores, produces a matte effect, helps to regulate sebum secretion, stimulates skin cell metabolism and skin regeneration."

"Chewed in solid form to promote oral health and used in oil form to tone skin and promote circulation, its use quickly spread throughout the west, and today it is known for its cleansing, toning, and pest-repellent qualities. Our 100% Pure Birch Tar Essential Oil is dark and viscous, with a rich, burnt, woody scent."

As a topical medicine "Arthritis: Because of strong effects for bones and muscles, birch can be helpful in relieving arthritic pain. In a 1/3 oz. (10 ml) roll-on vial, combine 5 drops eucalyptus, 5 drops birch, 3 drops peppermint, 10 drops lavender, and 5 drops rosemary. Fill the remaining volume with your favorite carrier oil."

"Organic Birch essential oil is Antiseptic and is used in many cosmetic and medicinal products. It is an excellent reliever for muscle cramps and joint pain too."

Now you know why I ordered a big bottle of the essential oil instead of getting a few bars of soap - much more versatile, efficacious and cost effective!

I am going to blend it with Red Cedar, Mysore East Indian Sandalwood, Juniper, Lebanese Cypress, Pine, Cinnamon bark, Clove bud, White Grapefruit, Sweet Orange, Tuscan Lemon and High Altitude Lavender to make a lovely toilet and bathroom freshener.
I do different organic blends every week - I hate harsh, overpowering, synthetic chemical fragrances.
Natural ones don`t last as long but they chemically change your mood - cheer you up!

That`s why people put fresh flowers and herbs in a room and are used extensively at weddings and funerals.

Brambleberry used to have a melt and pour shaving base, but I haven't seen it offered in years.

I hope this project of yours is successful, and brings you lots of enjoyment ( and fabulous shaves ).
