What's new

i Kon OSS

I just had my first shave with my new iKon OSS. Occasionally over the past couple of months, I had used the OSS baseplate with my Feather AS-D1 to achieve a more aggressive shave. (I usually used only the open-comb side, as it was efficient yet still smooth and mild.)

Last week, I decided to build a complete OSS and ordered the top cap and handle directly from iKon.

The fit and finish are superb. The handle is supposedly blemished, but I can see nothing wrong with it (except that it is beautifully shiny and not matte like the top cap and baseplate). Assembled, the OSS is noticeably larger and heavier than the AS-D1 (mostly if not entirely due to the handle). Although the AS-D1 holds the upper hand in refined appearance (due to some almost invisible machine marks on the ends of the OSS baseplate), the OSS looks excellent and a bit less "industrial" than, say, the ATT Titan that I had.

The shave? Smooth and awesome!

I'm digging the heft, look, and feel of the OSS. I'm not sure how much I will use the straight-bar side, but it is a nice option to have for final clean up and buffing.

I gave the rest of my razors to friends and family and kept only the OSS. Like you said: "Smooth and awesome!" this razor allows me to shave the stubble at skin level with total safety. I use the open comb for the first WTG pass and XTG just over the cheeks and back, ending with a ATG pass with the safety bar.
Are you feeling courageous? I dare you to do a 45º gillette slide. This is the king of slants.

I really dug the OSS I had (also had the CNC machined S3S).

It was one of the ones that went in my big shave den thinning sale.

I listed a BUNCH of stuff hoping that not everything would sell.

Boy was that a dumb move View attachment 312661

Don't get me started again.... There are a number of razors I sold that I want to buy again.

So far I have only replaced 4 razors I sold on my last shave den clear out.

Got another 39c slant. I quickly found that I could not live without both the long and short handle slant. I thought I could but NOPE...

Got another DE89

Got another Weber stainless

And got another fatboy (but a toggle this time)

So far those are the only razors I have replaced out of the large number of razors I sold.

That would be an $$$$ replacement!

My nature is different, I'm perfectionist, I bought and tried different razors, learning and evaluating how things work and then committing to one only razor.

Is it just me or does Ikon have a strange pricing scheme for the OSS. The top plate and bottom plate are $37.50 each and the handle is $39.00 (total $114). The complete OSS razor is $150.00? Am I missing something? I feel like I have to be missing something.

Looks like they are missing something. Like almost $40 worth of something. My OSS had a different handle than the one they sell separately. It was gray coated like the head and much longer than the "sold separately" handles

I have heard that iKon ShaveCraft 101 head is more aggressive than the iKon OSS head.

I love my OSS. I love my Shavecraft 101, too.

The Shavecraft 101 feels milder to me, but shaves closer. I would not characterize this as "more aggressive." Aggressive suggests "bite", and the 101 does not bite, it is mild feeling.

Comments from other folks on the 101 here: http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showth...craft-101-Anyone-know-anything-about-this-one

I use the original, long OSS handle on both.
