I Kon OSS vs standard base plate

I have been using an OSS for a while and decided to try the standard base plate because I liked the way the safety bar side felt. I found that the standard base plate , which is the safety bar, was considerably more aggressive than the OSS. Has anyone else tried this?

Yes, I have been using all three of the Ikon base plates in my razor system. I have the exact same observation as you have.

The Ikon baseplates are somewhat non-intuitive if you consider the mild to aggressive scale. They are from mild to aggressive OSS (open and closed comb, open comb more aggressive) - OC (open comb) - SB (closed comb).

The Feather AS-D1 is milder than the OSS.

I currently have a EJ DE89 and was wondering how smooth a shaver this is compared to it? I'm looking for something a little closer shaving but have been much more aggressive. I was wondering how aggressive you thought this shaver was compared to a DE89 or a Merkur 41 or 34C. I've never used an open comb before was thinking of getting just the standard bar until I read this post! Good thing I did. Now I'm wondering what the open comb would feel like if it isn't as aggressive as the standard bar.

The iKon SB is much more aggressive than the EJ89. IMHO, the iKon OC is more aggressive than the EJ, but not REAL aggressive. I really like its shave. For me, it is slightly more aggressive than a Gillette New.

This is exactly how I see it. I used the OC today and it felt really good. I used the SB yesterday and got a very close shave but you have to be really careful.

Your initial observation is on the money. The Standard base plate is the most aggressive of the three you have pictured. It is my favorite of all razors, but one that I cannot use on a every day basis. I will mix it up with a milder razor, such as a Weber.

Just received my SB and used it for the first time this AM. Definitely more aggressive than the DE89, lots of audible response. That said, first shave was a bloodless 3-pass BBS (in the gym locker room no less). Thin head really helped me under the nose, one of my problem spots. I advise adequate beard prep and careful technique. Think I'll pick up the OC baseplate next
