What's new

I have arrived at a decision...

Regarding the razor that suits my everyday needs. I was bitten with AD throughout the first 6 months of my DE/SE journey. I even have 3 straights.
The clear winner, again for everyday normal use, for me is.......the Gillette NEW.
Now that doesn't mean I'm selling my collection. I still enjoy the Slims , SS (regular and Red Tip), Fat Boy, EJ89, every SE that Gem ever produced, and I still use my Whipped Dog straight. But for a worry free shave that day after day amazes me, the NEW is it.
I have 3 and I think my next purchase will be a rhodium plated one after seeing how great they look.
I should just become a BOTOC member and be done with it!

Glad you've been able to finally decide. I'm still working on that decision myself.

My gold tech seems to be winning out. With my slim adjustable coming in second. Also trying out the fatboy, but I frankly don't see the big deal. The slim is working better. Aristocrat is in the mail, so I can't wait to try it.

I seem to be getting a consistently bad shave from my silver tip superspeed. And I have 2 of them. I'm thinking of seeing about trading it with someone for a blue tip superspeed. My face seems to do much better with mild razors.

I don't find the NEW to be really aggressive, I think the blade angle is set up in a more comfortable and efficient way than most. After around 40 or shaves with it, the only nick I have received was early on and with probably a poor lather (I was travelling and the hotel water was vastly different than what I am accustomed to).
My dad, who I reintroduced DE to, prefers the Blue Tip.

The Fatip
is the only modern production razor that I would even consider if everything I've heard is true. Are they brass?

They are. They come in nickel or chrome plating, but they are brass beneath the plating.

I agree with my fellow BOTOC'ers on this thread that the FaTip is ever so slightly BETTER than the NEW, at least for me. The only thing the NEW does better is align the blade.

Probably a good rule of thumb - if you like a New, get a Fatip, & vice versa. People that like one seem to like the other as well.

Ron, there are many pics of the NEW in the Botoc thread.
So the Fatip doesn't properly align the blade without interaction? I can put a blade in one of my News blindfolded.

I just recently acquired a NEW from a true gentleman member and have only gotten to use it once. I didn't find the shave to be much different than my Muhle R89 which is considered by most to be a mild razor. I didn't change anything in my technique I use with my R89 and had a good shave with not irritation or bleeding.
