What's new

I get it now. I get the chubby allure.

Who's got two thumbs, a new chubby 2 in super, and the best fiancé in the world? This guy! It's a fantastic birthday present, and I'm glad that she indulges me in my hobbies. It arrived today from West Coast Shaving.

I was shocked at how luxurious the brush feels on the skin, compared to my EJ medium in best. It's not just the soft tips, it's how dense the brush is, feeling like a smooth microfibre cloth painting on my face. Below you can see the two brushes side by side, with the EJ obviously on the left. The density difference is astounding.

And I'd like to make clear that I don't consider the EJ a bad brush. I was quite happy with it! If it weren't for this wretched hive of a website goading me into an acquisition disorder, I would have been quite contented with the EJ. :D

It took a LOT more soap than I was used to with the EJ best, and also more time to build lather from it. This will also help me finally finish a soap puck or two ... right?

I can tell from the pic above it will take a while to get a bloom. That's after one test lather with Mystic Water's Lime (fiancé's favourite scent). I'm sure there's more bloom to come.

I'm glad I am able to experience the luxury of a brush like this. Thanks to B&B for all the recommendations and rampant enabling.

Woo-hoo, another big brush convert! You will have to get another one, since the CH2 will take a whole day to dry out after shaving. :tongue_sm

Dude, i love your bride to be just for supporting you in your lifestyle of shaving, soaps, and rock and roll. Awesome freakin' gift.

i think that's all the bloom you are gonna see. i don't recall badgers progressing in bloom for me. new brush, first lather... BAM, it's bloom!

Nice Brush! I have a Chubby 2 in best and love it. I may have to get a Super now.
That is one great gift, enjoy it!

I just bought a CH1 in super. I can positively say I am beyond disappointed. I have an older Rooney 1/2 and it is truly a different brush, the hairs hold so much water! Even when drier, it has plenty of water to introduce into the soap. The CH1 seems like it doesn't even want that much water, I find myself struggling with the mixing. I hears Simpsons were so great, etc. and I am going to keep trying it, but right now it is definitely a step up from most brushes, but not revolutionarly different like my Rooney was. Perhaps I need a bigger Simpson brush, but I am thinking either there is something special about my Rooney (it is labeled super, but has the old print font instead of the script) or I just don't get the Simpson. It is taking me forever to build a lather with it. I will probably be getting rid of it, but I thought the brush was going to be thick, big bloom, etc but it is just thick and lots of backbone.

The Chubbies, whichever the number, 1,2 or 3, are extremely dense brushes, and require a different style of use. Load your soap for a good minute(I do that with all my brushes anyway) and face lather not just in a swirling motion, but also in paintbrush style afterward. Chubbies retain a lot of lather within due to the density of hair, and paint brushing releases the lather.

Congrtulations on:

  1. Receiving an excellent brush.
  2. Having a superb fiancee
  3. Crafting the phrase, "wretched hive of a website goading me ..." (one of the best written lines that I've seen in awhile). :001_smile
