I dont get Tabac

For the life of me I can not get more then one pass out of it... it just seems to break down so fast... I lather it in a bowl like anyother soap but one pass and it is gone.... any tips?

Whether you like the smell or hate it, Tabac has GOT to be the easiest lathering soap there is, at least in my experience.
Do you have really hard water?
Are you certain your loading the brush up fully?
What is your prep?
Do you use any pre-shave products?

Yes, the water here is quite hard, but I never have an issue lathering say mamabears soap.. I am almost positive that the brush is loaded correctly. My prep is brush in hot water in a latherign bowl from Dirty bird water in the scuttle from DB as well... shower..I have been using a pre shave oil. build lather and shave....

Personally, the few times I used pre-shave oil, my shaves sucked.
Your Mileage May Vary.
Olive oil is a positive lather killer, other oils may be similar.
Have you tried Tabac without the oil?
I generally face lather rather than use a bowl, so maybe that has something to do with it.
I can tell you that, for me, it lathers really easily, and the shaves are great because it is very lubricating and cushioning.
Tabac is my #1 "I don't really want to work at the soap today" soap.

Wow! My experience with Tabac matches Phil's.

I have hard water and no problems building enough Tabac lather for 3 passes & touchups with either my humongous T3 or my teeny Tweezerman.

I've never used a pre-shave oil. Perhaps there's some interraction between the two?

Ya seriously.

When you say it breaks down, what do you mean? Too much water, or too little? Is it drying out or getting runny?

It sounds like you're not loading enough soap on your brush. My experience is that it takes longer to load tallow soaps into your brush than glycerin soaps (like the MB you've been using).

Try loading your brush with WAY more soap than you think you need. Spend a good 30 seconds to a minute loading your brush on the puck. THEN start building your lather, adding just a little water bit by bit. This may be overkill, but it will give you and idea of how much soap you need in your brush. I hope you're rewarded with mounds of lathery goodness!

Don't listen to those Tabac naysayers above. Their brains have been affected by too much wool fat.

Tabac produces a thick, dense, and creamy lather that is very stable. Try it again using some of the suggestions posted and I think you will change your mind. Start with a wetter brush than normal. Good luck.

Yup, to all of that...

I think most lathering problems can be solved by loading your brush and building the lather on your face, not in bowl. It is easy to adjust the water ratio, you can always load your brush if you need more lather. I haven't used a bowl in a long time and would never go back to using one. I do the same with creams. In a bowl it seems you are always trying to adjust the water ratio to get it just right. Building the lather on your face is so much easier and you will get great lather.
