I am torn - Should I get the Slant 37c or 39c

Hello everyone,

I know what many of you will say and I can only afford one or the other, if that. I like the barber poll style handle but what to get other opinions.

Any thoughts?

Chris

Turtle does a great comparison there. Highly recommended reading! I myself own both and do prefer my 37C ever so slightly for the manueverability. I originally thought that the short handle would be an issue since I have larger hands, it was not. You are making a good choice either way. I love the slants. :biggrin1:

I have not tried the 39c, but I prefer the looks of the 37c. The 37c shave wonderfully. I would recommend a slant to anyone to at least try. They are not nearly as scary as the look.

Kinda depends on if you like a shorter plain handle or a nice Longer Barber pole style handle, I like the looks and heft of the 39C also its smooth shaves, I would go for the one your heart is really set on first 39C ? Then and only the if you dont like it "Which I Doubt", You can turn around and resell it on BST in less then an hour... You know you want the 39C, So go for it

I wanted the 37c, but it has not been available from vendors in quite some time. I bought the 39c instead, since I found a seller that had them, but am not crazy about the longer handle. I think it shaves well, I just wish I had waited for the 37c to get back in stock.

They are now back in stock now just about everywhere I have looked.

The extra weight of the 39c sledgehammer makes it a stronger contender out of the two. However I find the 37c ideal for travelling - it's horses for courses and a matter of individual taste but whichever slant you choose you will be guaranteed a totally different shaving experience if you've never used one before...

I have both but prefer the 39c. The extra size seems to work really well but I suspect you'd be pleased with either.

Does the 37c handle unscrew like the old gillettes where there is a barrel inside the bottom of the handle and screw post attached to the cap? Or does the whole handle unscrew like a Jagger?

Speaking of Jagger, if the entire handle unscrews, will a EJ89 Barley handle fit the threads and mating points of the 37c?

If this is the case, maybe I could get the length and weight of the 39c handle by using my barley handle and use the 37c handle when traveling or wanting maneuverability.

Any thoughts? Thank you for all the replys.

Both of them are 2 piece (head base plate is attached permanently to the handle)

The cap comes off and has a long threaded post like the Progress does.

There are compression rings on the knobs that keep it from falling out when the cap is off

I see! :dots:

Since I have a few great heavy razors. I am now leaning toward the 37c. That way I may still be able to get the R41 too.

I can't help you. I rotate both and have never been able to decide my favorite. Love both. Your choice.

You will be more than satisfied with any of them.

You don't have to choose only one of them. Buy any one of them now, then buy the other some months later.

I enjoy the more nimble feel of a shorter handle. I got the 34c starting out then added the 38c. When I started exploring slants I went with the 37c.

I think the barber pole Merkurs are too big and clumsy - just my take. I think the HD style Merkurs are perfect; and the slant head even better. Get the 37C.
