How To Cut One Weeks Growth

This is going to be my first hunting season since I began to wetshave last winter. I plan on not shaving for almost a week until I get home but my whiskers do not grow to bad but it turns into one of the ugliest looking beards.

In the past I would just use my electric shaver but I disposed of it since I began wetshaving. Any recommendations on how to proceed to get it back down smooth? Can I use a DE?

Can you use your DE? Absolutely! My very first DE shave was against over a month worth of growth. A week worth should be no problem. I’d definitely use a new blade though.

+1 on the new blade. Just take a hot shower, shampoo the beard, lather, shave, repeat. Make three passes. I did the one week growth thing recently on a 400 mile bicycle ride, and the above is what I did to get a Very Damn Fine Shave...

I've actually found since I started DE shaving that I get some of my best shaves after a few days of growth, should be no problem! Like someone said, use a new blade. I use an open comb if I'm cutting anything over a couple days growth.

I, also don't grow a great beard. But it is great to shave. My favorite to shave is a 3 or 4 days growth. Doesn't look so good so I have to have an excuse, like a long weekend boondock. Gives the best shaves. I would imagine I could do the same with a weeks growth. I use my Bull Mastiff, that has the NEW head, and a fresh red pack. It is curious that if I shave everyday, when I do I use a '47 SuperSpeed, my skin gets a little irritated and it isn't as close as every other day. Or longer.

Edit: I was just thinking how my GEM Junior might really do a great job on a long growth. Anyone try it? I will try it, though it might be a while. No camping trips planned soon. mark

I'd start with an electric clipper/beard trimmer to get rid of the worst if one is available. Then proceed to an open comb DE if available.

Otherwise, a regular DE should work fine, just be sure to lather up very well and rinse the razor/blade very often.

Did that just a short while ago..
I had hurt my hand in a construction accident and it made shaving tough so I just put it on the sidelines for awhile.. 5 days.
I use a straight to shave and it was awesome just wiping the whiskers away...
other years before the straight I would grow a beard for the winter months and then shave it off for the summer, it was always a pain to remove with a cartridge or electric, pulling tugging just ouch, with the straight however it was awesome to watch and do

If you have a real barbershop around...one that can actually do a straight razor shave, spend a few bucks, lay back in the chair and get an enjoyable shave. Make sure the barber's name isn't Sweeney.

Once in a while I have week's worth of beard to shave, usually because of some irritation issues that I am trying to clear up. When that happens I use clippers to reduce the growth before taking a DE to the stubble. I do it this way so that I can get to my skin and address any remaining ingrowns or irritation. I am pretty sure that you can shave that much beard off with a DE and skip the clipper step if you want to though.

Straight.
Wait a few months and then use a straight. I swear before I die I will try this. Maybe. A whole month without shaving? I think it would be easier to kick heroine.

For shame. You must be a really bad man to kick a heroine. They're so sweet and innocent. What's that? Oh..... never mind.

Nothing more than a good prep and a fresh blade in your DE will do the trick.

Use an open comb DE if you have one so you don't need to clean it all the time. You might need one more WTG or XTG pass but the shave will probably be smoother and more comfortable than your usual daily shave.

For going long periods of whiskers a straight is the best thing ever nothing beats seeing all that hair just slide off your face.
