What's new

How rare are the rare razors (i.e. Brit Aristocrats, toggles)?

I was browsing ebay the other day and just floored by some of the prices going for the desirable razors like the British Aristocrats, toggles, Presidents, which leads me to wonder, how many are out there in the world? There's a finite number of them, and they'll never be made again. How many are there to go around the shaving public? Does anyone have an educated estimate? Maybe they're rarer than we think, or maybe they're inflated. Thoughts?

As a for example, the Toggle was only made for one year.

So if one takes the amount made, minus the amount thrown away, minus the amount that are unusable, minus the number of "shaver grade" specimens, I would guess the number remaining that are in near mint condition is simply not that many.

Thus the high price for what is perceived to be a fairly rare item.
