What's new

How could this happen?

Hi fellow wet shavers.
So I was doing my weekly cleaning the merkur progress this morning over the toilet with toothbrush and soap, and the bottom part (the knob) slipped out of my hand and went right down the toilet, I tried to pull it out but no luck.
anyone has the bottom part? I'm willing to buy from you.

I'm sorry to hear this but it is funny. Thanks for the laugh!..oh jeeze I'm crying:lol::laugh:....reminds me when I lost tooth down the drain as a kid. There went my five bucks! I wish someone would have told me to put a wet wash cloth over the drain.....

you clean your razor over the toilet?????? Do you shave over the toilet? make salads in the shower? Simply buff it clean with a damp towel, then followup with the clean dry part of the towel while holding the razor in the towel. Sorry, you might need a whole new razor.

I feel for you bro! My entire collection of razors, soaps, aftershave and brushes, is located in a cabinet directly over the thunder box. Closing the toilet lid, before opening my shave cabinet, is a ritual that I do not omit. I had to burn my fingers a few times before I learned my lesson.

Oh dude, that sucks! I don't know if anyone sells spare parts of razors; you may have to go to an online retailer for the knob.

Had a great laugh at your post.

On a more serious note: I have read else where in this forum that people have lost, broken bits from their Merkur's. They emailed/contacted Merkur directly, who replaced them at no charge. Give them a try or you may have to buy another progress.

I am sorry to hear that, it's the type of thing that happens to me, not that exact thing, but similarly needless mistakes. Nobody is beyond having an accident.

Last week I was watching a horror on my laptop, (I never watch horrors), and this freaky kid with the body of a dog just appeared on the road from no-where, anyway, I was just about to take a sip of tea, and I jumped with fright, spilled twea on my laptop, now the keyboard does not work, I have to plug in an external keypboard now to use my laptop, could be worse I suppose, but it just shows you how a split second carelessness can cost you money :)

Don't sweat it bro, we live and learn :)

I see a few things to try.
Go look for a broken one that you could use the knob from.
post a WTB in the BST
Go with a Mergress conversion
contact Merkur and see how much a replacement is.

I agree that this is the perfect time for a Mergress conversion. My guess is that would mean it cost you nothing for the lost knob, as it would not be used anyway. Think of it as a money saver. You'll love the Mergress.

This may sound odd but you can pull the toilet and you "should" find your adjustment knob in the P trap of the bowl.

Get a new wax ring first. It's not too hard to pull the toilet and the experience will be a good reminder to put the lid down next time :a7:

Write to Merkur about it. Someone lost a piece of one of their Merkurs a while ago and asked to buy one and they sent it to him for free!

I'm sure you will find somewhere online that will sell a replacement part, I just typed 'knob' into google and got loads of hits, so lots of people must be selling them. :a2:
