What's new

Houston, we have a problem... Use a Mama Bear soap = my face breaks out

First and foremost... I LOVE the smell, the slickness and great performance of Mama Bear soaps (I've only tried two of them, Ye Olde Barbershoppe and Rosemary Mint), but every single time I use them, I have a small breakout (little white pimples).

It has only happened when using one of these Mama Bear soaps. I've used several other shaving creams and soaps (Proraso Green cream, Proraso White soap, Cella cream, pretty much every T&H cream, Trumper Lime and Sandalwood creams, EJ Sandalwood cream, TOBS Avocado and Lavender creams, and Tabac and Cade soaps) and have not experienced anything like the above.

Any ideas??? I know it isn't my shaving technique because I'm getting excellent results and this issue, as I have stated before, only happens when using the Mama Bear soaps.

I'm totally puzzled .

Weird!

Are you using a particular brush or razor with these soaps, or a particular blade with them?

I seem to get the small white pimple problem when I try to use a blade more than two days in a row, and I think it may be contaminants growing on the blade. I imagine that if you do use a certain razor or brush with those soaps it could be the same kind of thing.

The brush is pretty much a constant for me. For soaps, I've only used an Edwin Jagger BB for the past month and a half. For creams, I use a different one, a Simpsons Chubby CH2 BB.

As per the blades, I use most of them for 2 shaves only with the exception of a couple of brands, which I use for a max of 3 shaves and then discard them. I always sanitize my razors and blades (separately) before and after every shave by dunking both in 91% Isopropyl Alcohol for 3-5 minutes, so I think a contamination issue is improbable.

Might be the type of soap. I don't use the so-called glycerin or melt and pour soaps, but not for the same reason as you. Find another brand, preferably unscented, and see if the type doesn't work for you. If the other works, it must be the ingredients, maybe the fragrance.

Try the unscented glycerin soap that Mama Bear offers. It could be the scent that is causing your problem.

I don't understand why you would be "totally puzzled." You have used several soaps/creams successfully in the past and now a new product is giving you problems. It seems obvious to me that you are sensitive to something in it.

If I were you, I would not worry about it. I'd just go back to one (or more) of the ones I liked/used in the past and/or I would try something from another vendor. We are all different. What works perfectly well for me may not be suitable for you. Fortunately, there are so many products to try that we probably will never run out of new opportunities.

Good luck in your quest.

Thanks for all your input, guys.

I guess I'm going to just stop using them for now. I will order some of the unscented one at a later time to see whether it makes me breakout or not.
