What's new

Hockey!

Tonight was the first preseason game for my NJ Devils, against the rival NY Rangers. Devils won, 2-1. I know it's just preseason and doesn't mean anything, but it's great to have hockey back.

Can't wait for October!

I have not come down from that last Stanley Cup. Of all the ones I have seen that was an exceptionally exciting Cup.

Heh as a Bruins fan, my feeling is a little...uh...different.

On the plus side I for tickets to take our older daughter (4 1/2) to a game in November. She has loved skating since she started taking lessons last winter, and I need to convince her to be a hockey player. However our town has a big figure skating presence so I might be waging a losing battle.

My sons (17 & 21) are going to the Pens' home opener. Hockey is so much better in person, IMO. And so much more expensive.

Go Wings! I need to get the hockey package for my cable company...trying to get hockey in Florida is ridiculous if you don't have the sports packages.

Quite the "broo-ha-ha" in Toronto the other night ... remarkable for the pre-season. (Or should we be discussing this in the MMA thread??)

Last year, the Red Wings got some great goaltending with Jimmy Howard 'in the nets', but in my opinion, they sadly don't have the overall 'depth' (PP & PK included), and a elite goalie in net (and the team is getting kind of geriatric with each passing year), to mount a serious threat to the teams around the league for the Cup.

Also, I know this year will be tough for all teams pulling the 82 game (41 at home & 41 away), schedule (filled with 'acrobatic monster' saves, big

hits, skill, finesse and 'must-see-again' goals

), and although I believe most if not all the teams have skill and 'tons' of depth on the bench, I think it's prudent not to take out the crystal ball

just yet.

However, I'll bet there'll won't be any 'clean sweeps'

for the Cup this year, but being a original Michigander from East Lansing (and Dallas sadly has no chance; although Kari Lehtonen is a solid goalie for the Stars, but he is not among the elite goalies in the NHL]),...I'll 'root'

As a long suffering Ranger fan (one win in 70 years, and a quarter century of that time with only six teams), I'm psyched for another gut-wrenching season.

Interesting to see which of the two teams in "the great coach swap of 2013" do better this year, Vancouver or the Rangers.

Just bought tickets for my first Devils game of the season, October 24th vs. Vancouver. Kind of hoping to see Schneider start in goal that night against his former team, though my love of Marty Brodeur is undying.

Now that the Yankees are officially out of the playoffs, I really can't wait for hockey to be back. Is it October yet??

Lots of people will want to see that match-up, the two goalies first on that list no doubt. They both have 'something to prove'. Not playing them would send the wrong message. Marty gets a night off.

I know, but it's more likely to happen when they meet in Vancouver on the 8th. Not sure it will happen again when the Canucks head here at the end of the month.

As a Clevelander who loves the Wings, I typically can devote all my attention from game 1 through the playoffs.

This year, the Indians are knocking on the door of the playoffs, so I will have to split my sports watching attention a bit. Can't wait for the season, I am curious about how the re-allignment will effect the broadcasts for out of market fans. Plus, I can go three hours east or west to catch the wings in the Burgh or Detroit.

Is it October yet??
