Helsinki checking in

Hi,

I am from Helsinki, Finland and decided to join the forum as I find myself visiting here more and more.

I have been using a cut throat on and off for the last five years or so, usually on long Sundays when I have nothing better to do.

A few weeks ago I decided to get a DE safety razor. Glad I did!
Going through reviews and hands on experiences I ended up getting the Merkur 34C as i thought it would be a good place to start.

So far I have tried Merkur and Feather blades and both have proven good. I prefer the Merkur as I still haven't managed to nick myself with them. Maybe the Feathers are a bit sharper?
I am still in awe that one can really shave without tugging and irritated skin:ohmy:

I use mostly Proraso for pre-and post-treatment and a touch of alum block for nicks if any.

Thanks for reading,

Looking forward to learning more from this forum.

Welcome! As you happen to be from Finland, I want to recommend http://herrainpukimo.fi/ . I visited them in Turku and I have to say their service was outstanding good. I wanted to buy only an R41 head and they sold it to a nice price. They mostly have Mühle and Proraso products.

Thanks for all the welcomes and tips.
I find myself looking at vintage razors over ebay already

Sounds like you're off to a great start
and (awesome you're using a Merkur...I have the 23C & 38C), this Forum has the knowledge, ideas, and all around 'know-how' to assist in your Wet-Shaving experience (shaving nirvana and the Zen of Shaving [http://zenhabits.net/the-zen-of-shaving-how-a-double-edge-razor-can-change-your-life/]), ). In a nut-shell...your 'gonna' love it here.
Q. By the way, what brand of tools (brushes, soaps, scents, ect...), are you working with?

In my opinion, it's wise and sage of you to get a Razor Blade Sampler (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthr...pack?highlight), so that you'll see what blade would be a good fit (mild, moderate & aggressive, ect...), for your face and razor(s).

Also, the Thread entitled Wet Shaving Instructions & Tutorials (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthr...THIS-THREAD%21), maybe of great interest to you and is very informative to include B & B's Interactive ShaveWiki's (http://wiki.badgerandblade.com/).

And please don't forget The 7 P's of Shaving...Prepare, Patience, Pressure, Practice, Persistence, Post shave and Passion (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php/313490-New-Members!-The-6-P-s-of-Shaving).

Although, you may not be addicted yet (I think I'm holding up fairly well...with a few exceptions), because we all suffer (gladly and are doomed perhaps), from this shaving compulsion (and other Acquisition Disorders), because at times..."Resistance is futile".

Hi Count, hyvin menee:)
Thanks for your funny post and tips, you nailed Finland with sauna and booze!!
I have posted a short intro in the hall of fame.

I'll try to attach a pic of my set next.

Here's the current set with my pride and joy, the red submariner from 1974:)
The pure badger brush was bought a long time ago from exec.shaving and is sitting in a Mühle mug.

Tervetuloa!

Love the watch! How about giving us a wrist shot in the Watch Ya Wearing thread? Great classic green setup too, a bit chilly for my liking at the moment though (not that we're having much of a winter...).
