What's new

Help! What now?

I grew a Van Dyke for the fun of it this summer. First time I've grown anything in at least 15 years. My family loved it. When I shaved it off they missed it; my young daughter begged me to grow it back, which I'm doing now as the weather gets cooler. Problem is it reduces my TSA (Total Shaveable Area) and also my MSSL (Maximum Single Stroke Length). Shaving just isn't as satisfying - I imagine it's similar to smokers switching to light cigarettes.

Is there a support group for this?

Resistance is futile, and chances are their fashion sense is better than yours.

I know how you feel. I had a full beard early last year when I started this. After a couple of weeks trimming around the edges I shaved it down to a Van Dyke at Easter so that I could do more shaving. I went clean shaven through the summer. In the fall I grew back the Van Dyke and then the full beard, but the beard was much neater around the edges than it had ever been before. I am repeating that process again this year, and believe it's going to be an annual thing.
