Hello gentlemen. I have been straight shaving for about 6 months now and have been trying to hone on a coticule for probably about half that time. I have been able to get some decent shaves off blades I've honed myself but its been super hit and miss. I've tried alot of different methods I've read here and seen in videos (coticule.be and youtube) with very little succesful attempts. This leads me to my rather embarrassing ask for help. I am hoping there is someone in Michigan I could meet with and actually watch and see what they do and they could maybe tell me what I'm doing wrong. I hope this isn't too weird a request. Thanks in advance for any help and all the help given in my previous threads.

Hey man, that's not an embarrassing request at all!! I've been coti honing for about 6 months myself, and I am JUST gettiing to the point where I can get consistently smooth edges but it took a looong time! It really helps to have a "mentor" to show you the ropes, whether it's in your area or not.
For me personally, I got in contact with Jon (Raithskar) who has really taken me under his wing & shown me "the way of the coticule". He's nowhere near me however, so we exchanged contact info & have had some lengthy conversations about coticule honing. I even filmed myself honing on my La Grise and sent him the video to critique, which was very helpful.
I also asked a LOT of questions on a few different forums, and have gotten some really good advice, so all I'm saying is don't be afraid to keep asking! I'm in Boston, but would be willing to help you in any way I can, so just shoot me a PM and let me know...

I was going to suggest it might be easier to do a video exchange. Heck, put it on youtube so other people can learn from your mistakes. We see plenty of videos of the *right* way, but if you're not doing it right, sometimes it's hard to tell what you're doing differently.

Hey Thanks guys. Yeah I dont have real video camera but I'm sure I can make something work with my web cam or even skype.
