Help me pick a shave soap under $10

I am going to order Dr. Dittmar shaving soap from Royal Shave. The single puck option is out of stock, so I'm going to have to buy two pucks for $22. If I spend $25, I get free shipping. Help me choose a shave soap under $10 from RS? Here are the choices I see:

Edwin Jagger (which scent?)
Haslinger (which scent?)
De Vergulde Hand
Palmolive shave stick
Speick shave stick

Recommendations welcome!

Dave

Speick shave stick is my choice off that list. The La Toja stick would be a better option but RS doesn't carry it.

I have the palmolive and EJ, have not tried either, but I think the sandelwood EJ smells awesome.

From another Mississipian, out of the list you have given I would go with the Palmolive, especially if it is the Euro version. EJ is an OK soap with an AMAZING scent.

I can vouch for Palmolive. I have a Speick stick in the vanity, have been using the Palmolive and haven't tried Speick yet. It receives approximately the same amount of love as the Palmolive. Maybe less, a lot of folks can't believe they charge so little for the Palm.

The only two I have tried are Jagger and Palmolive and I like them both. The Jagger I have is Sandalwood and I love the scent. I also love the Palmolive scent.

I wasn't impressed with Dr. Dittmar's. It felt like shaving with cream cheese. I'd skip it, and get Institut Karite, instead. Or Valobra. Valobra rocketh.

Palmolive gets my vote.

I agree. For traveling Palmolive stick can't really be beat. Arko is a bit better of a soap but the stick is so soft it would be hard to actually use in that form (I squish my Arko into a mug before use).

Please note that Palmolive stick requires a ten minute soak of the tip before use. I use the pill bottle that I store it in.

It Depends on whether you have sensitive skin or not.
If You Do, (Or If You Just Like The Soothing Properties) Try The Aloe Vera One.
I'm not sure how it performs, But it's on my wishlist.

Cream cheese? Really? I've get nothing but great shaves with Dr. Dittmar soap. Had one today, as a matter of fact. To the OP, I've read that the Palmolive stick is comparable to Arko. If that is the case, then I would go with that, since Arko is awesome.

I purchased Dr. Dittmar, Savon du Midi, and Haslinger (Marigold) from Royal, and I've found each of them to be terrific. Haslinger--nice scent, super easy to lather (even with my hard water), excellent cushion, slickness, and moisturizing--was quite a surprise for me. I'm not familiar with the other Haslinger scents. Speick is excellent, too. EJ is quite good (I have the aloe vera), though you may need to peruse the threads about how to lather it (the consensus seeming to be that, especially at first, you need to soak it, use a very wet brush, and load for much longer than usual). I like the Palmolive stick, but, to me, its lather is nowhere as rich as the above soaps (or to its budget peer Arko, for that matter). I don't think you can go wrong with any of your options!

I can attest to the quality of the inexpensive Palmolive (tallow Euro version). It's very very good with a clean/sporty scent. I've also heard nothing but praise for Speick so I think you could go with either of those and be happy.

How would you describe the Speick scent?

I don't know what you people do to your sticks of arko. I smashed mine with a 35lb iron weight with force and it barely dented it. I tried to bend it over in the middle and couldn't. I could BARELY get a thumbprint in it. It's been in my shower for the past couple weeks and it's harder than any bath soap in there (there's about four).

If it's too soft for you to use as a shave stick then you must have the grip strength of a gorilla and the manual dexterity of an elephant.
