Heljestrand Mk No4 info?

Does anybody have any info (prod. date/value/etc) for this straight razor? I know there is plenty of info about the C.V. Heljestrand company, but I am looking more specifically for this model. It cleaned up very nice, and I'd love to know more about it! :smile1:

Ive been DE shaving for a month and a half, and this is the only straight I have ATM. As much as I'd like to get into using straights, I can't bear to try and learn on this one. I suppose I'll have to buy a cheap razor to learn to hone on before this beauty gets used.

Not a razor for the beginner straight shaver. This particular model has a tendency to leave weepers and nicks wherever it goes. I can dispose if it for you and will even throw in a Gold Dollar plus the cost of p&p.

Lovely razor, I've got a near nos no.6 and it shaves brilliantly even if my technique is sometimes a little off. That said it did leave me with a nice nick on my chin this week!

MK = Magnus Kindal. He was the Swedish importer of CVHs in Paris. I believe he started 1898...+/- 5 years ;)
I have not find any "system" regarding the CVH numbers, anyway the MK4 should be full hollow, square point and 11/16.
Production date: I'd guess 1940 +/- 10 years

Value? I've sold some of them on eBay and the selling price ended between $70-$120. Once I saw one which was sold for $400 or more I do not rember exactly :scared:

I own one and it's one of the best CVHs I've shaved with (I still have the MK4-MK7-MK31-MK33, I've owned several MK32, MK30, MK3, MK10 and a MK134) Mine is par with my EPBD 14 so IMHO it is one of the best CVHs: it takes an amzing edge and it keeps it for many shaves, easy to hone too.

Hope this helps :biggrin1:

Thank you very much good sir, this is exactly the kind of info I was looking for. I look forward to learning on a cheaper razor so I can try this CVH out myself!

I have several Heljestrands - they're great shavers. About as good as they get.

Can't say they're better than anything else out there; a Gold Dollar will do as well, if it's honed properly. Still, as I said, I like them. Good razors.

Oh! I've had a Mk 4. It's really good. I won't state that they're any better than any other Heljestrands, though. Grind and size are more important than the brand.

:biggrin1: You could start with the MK4 as well: it's really easy to hone (MK6 and MK24 have much harder steel)
