HDMI Cable

My friend just purchased an Xbox 360 recently. I went over the other day and he's using RCA cables on his Sony LCD! I told him he's missing out and that i'd order him an HDMI cable.

From what i understand the name brand cables are a waste. Just want to make sure these would be fine for an Xbox 360 to LCD connection.

I was about to buy them but i seen some reviews stating that it wasn't a category 2 HDMI cable so i'm not sure if this would effect him or not.

The brand of cable doesn't really matter that much since HDMI cables send digital information. Those cables you found on Amazon should be fine as should anything you get at Monoprice. :thumbup1:

I think you're correct in assuming name brand cables are a waste. I read an article somewhere that basically said companies like Monster Cable are selling their products for a premium, even though there's no data that proves they're of better quality than generic. go generic if you can

Thanks guys, appreciate the input, gonna go ahead and order these.

BTW his TV is 1080P although i think most Xbox games are 720.

I recently bought a 32" 1080p tv and an HDMI cable for my 360 and I have to say, Final Fantasy 13 looks amazing on it.

All HDMI cables are copper wire so they cost is very cheap if you get one at cost you are looking at a few dollars companies like monster are just building huge profits off their name.

I second the recommendation for Monoprice. I have purchased from them multiple times in the past, always with great results. They are, however, a site built more toward ordering in bulk, so the cable on Amazon would work without problems.

Weird, when i think monster, i usualy think a bunch of unethical bastards who lie to people to sell them overpriced junk, and i truly apologize to anyone here who dosnt have a father by compering him to monster cables,

i still remember them putting 2 TV´s next to each other, one with a HDMI cable and the other with a low definition RF connection to show the "differance" their cables make, flat out lying to people to sell 40 buck cables which are no better then 3 buck generics,

if your source is less then 20 feet from your TV, any cable will do,
if its futher, buy shielded cables,
stuff like oygen free silver or cryonization is just BS, every cable will need a repeater after X distance, the quality of the soldering makes little differance unless its REALLY bad, and you proboboly need like 400 feet cables to notice the differance between copper and silver,

wow, that's messed up. :thumbdown

One caveat to add - monoprice cables tend to be of cheaper construction than name brand ones. That's not an issue for, say, a TV where you plug it in and leave it forever, but I've notice that cables that are being constantly moved around and plugged/unplugged (car chargers or mp3 player jacks) tend to break much quicker.

Don't buy Monster Cable, unless you like supporting a company that sues everyone and anyone using the word 'Monster' in the name. Google Monster lawsuit for specifics.

I usually patronize www.monoprice.com
Cables and connectors of all sorts, of great quality and very low prices.
Though yer amazon deal there seems to have them beat by a few bucks.
One recommendation I would make is to get a cable thats is 1.3b.
Hmm, looks like 1.4 will be coming soon:

Go with Monoprice; they sell different versions of their HDMI cables-some are wrapped, some are not. Take your time to look around on the site and figure out whether you want thick vs. thin. If you ever have a problem w/ one of their cables, they will replace it.

You have no idea what goes on in the cable business, especially in audio circles.

Every audio board has a troupe of cable shills who receive free cables and/or cash for steering the credulous to buy pricey aftermarket cables.

And the claims border on the laughable: pure silver, cryogenically treated, ancient mysteries, bathed in the tears of a virgin Tibetan monk, etc. etc.

These folk make Monster look like an innocent child.

Hi, just wanted to let you know that is the exact cable I bought about 6 months ago and it works great for my 360 or when I plug it into my computer to watch my mlbtv on my tv from my laptop. Huge improvement over the regular cables for the xbox.

you really feel the HDMI cable when coming from composite or RF, the change from 480i to 1080p is a bit shocking,

but if you´re coming from component and 720p/1080i, the differance might not be as big,
