What's new

have a couple fatips coming - replating? who?

i have a couple fatips coming 3 actually. one in gold which im going to keep gold, the other 2 are nickel and im really thinking about getting them re-plated but while i have not seen them yet i have heard they have a not the nicest finish on them from the factory. as well as some tooling and machine marks. who is the one people go to for re-plating these things around here looking for a really nice end result with a nice even and smooth coating when they are done. can i get some recc's or who to contact for this? i remember reading about someone who actually did a few fatips but i cant find the post now.

The head on my one was fine, it was the handle that wasnt very good quality (there is a picture in my gallery, little dings in the lines on the handle). You might be better off just buying different handles for them rather than getting them replated.

the handles will get changed out. but looks like you had a piccolo? what i have been reading is the nickel plating on the piccolo's seems to be better than on the grande not sure if this is at all true just what i have got from comments. i ordered the grande versions and was going to order 2 more for friends of mine and i have been debating on the piccolo or grande in nickel. bandb is huge and ive been trying to go back and go through all the threads i can and man its a lot to read up on lol.

I suspect that the finish on he Fatips will be chrome rather than nickel, but the chrome can be stripped back to the under-lying nickel, polished and then further plating in nickel, gold, rhodium or whatever.

For general information, nothing 'sticks' to Chrome, it needs to be removed before applying another finish.
