Has anyone tried Vetiver de Puig by Antonio Puig?

Ran across it's mention on Basenotes and it caught my attention. Can't argue with the price, either. Heaven knows I love my vetiver. It seems to get great reviews, but I've never seen it discussed here. Some have even compared it to Guerlain (!!!!!), but not quite as earthy and without the citrus topnotes.

Has anyone tried it? What are your thoughts? Longevity? Agua Lavanda is top-quality stuff considering the price, so I'm really interested in the Vetiver, as well.

I tried it a long time ago. What I can remember is that it lasted a good bit. My nose was not quite refined back then and I thought it was too old for my tastes. It would be worthwhile trying it again though because I am older now.

Glad you asked! And, just because you inquired, I applied some to refresh my recollection. This is a serious Vetiver, without a lot of citrus to soften its nature. However, something--it's been suggested that it's a celery note--does temper its naturally smoky element. Unlike Paul Smith Story, for example, the sillage and longevity are worthy of the name Vetiver. Feel free to read the reviews of this, and other fragrances, on basenotes.com. Some reviewers have shared their best opinions on as many as 2500 different fragrances--which is at least 10 more than I have. NOT!!

I tried it the other day and my wife said I smelled "like an old man"...thanks God that she is usually not at home when I apply my Floïd!!!

I recently received a bottle of this: it's pretty old-school but takes a back seat to no other vetivers. I'd say that Guerlain is better for hot weather but Puig has more earthiness and character. If I am in the neighborhood I may pick up the Zara vetiver which I understand was likewise composed by Antonio Puig and retails for a very appealing price. If he only tweaked the formula and kept the price low, then Guerlain may want to start looking over their shoulder.

I like the Vetiver de Puig. It seems to me to be a pretty straight forward vetiver, without quite as much "soapiness" as I get from Geurlain, not as rich as Floris, not as smoky & sweet as L'Occitane, lighter than Royall, and doesn't have the light citrusy blend that Roger & Gallet has. I like all of those for their own charasteristics, and I like the VdP for it's nice, fairly light simple vetiver scent that has decent longevity.
