halladay-perfect game

so I've been a baseball fan since 1990, and I've never seen a No-hitter pitched in all of that time. This year I've been watching almost every Phillies game and I have watched every single game pitched by Roy Halladay.

Well tonight Roy Halladay started and I decided to watch the Flyers instead.

can you guess what happened?

The Flyers lost and Halladay Pitched a perfect game. not just a no-hitter, a perfect game!

uggh...

Roy Halladay is freakishly good. The only pitcher I like better than Halladay is Tim Lincecum. That said, Halladay throwing a perfect game does not surprise me given his skill level.

I didn't tune in until the 7th inning and watched the rest of the way. It was a treat to watch, and I'm really happy for him. He's a great pitcher, but a decent guy too. My 8 yr old daughter and I met him at a charity event last week, and he couldn't have been nicer, especially to her. It's great when good things happen to good people.

I hate the Phillies--I grew up in Jersey and am a Mets fan--but I have to admit it was impressive. No miraculous defensive plays, no close calls at the plate that should have been balls, etc. At least he didn't sign with the Yankees.

whaddya know I grew up in philly and hate the mets:laugh:...especially after they completely embarrassed the Phils last week. Oh god! I would have stopped watching baseball if the Yankees bought halladay. That team needs to be stopped. I know the Phillies have a big payroll but mostly because the team that they built earned it. not because they went out and bought 4 or 5 hall of famers.

My biggest fear is that werth will be a yankee next year after winning the MVP this year. It's ashame he has become a great player on the Phillies and now they just can't afford him

How can anyone hate the Phillies? That's simple. The tougher question is how can so many people hate the Astros. There was an article in the Wall Street Journal a few weeks ago that said the Astros are the 4th most hated team in MLB. That's like hating the Nationals or the Royals. A team needs to be relevant to be worthy of that kind of emotion.

The sad part is he use to be a Blue Jay and I'm from Toronto. It was a sad day when he left. IMO, he has the potential to be one of the greatest of all-time.

I hate all teams from Philadelphia.

The Eagles.

The Flyers.

The Phillies.

The Sixers.

Man I hear that. As a Dodger fan, the only other team we hate more is San Francisco. Lincecum is amazing, the only thing you can say is "Should have been a Dodger".

Considering how many Perfect Games have been thrown in the history of baseball, I am surprised. It's no small feat and I applaud him, regardless of what team he's on.

For those unaware, here's the definition.

From Wikipedia:
A perfect game is defined by Major League Baseball as a game in which a pitcher (or combination of pitchers) pitches a victory that lasts a minimum of nine innings and in which no opposing player reaches base.

Thus, the pitcher (or pitchers) cannot allow any hits, walks, hit batsmen, or any opposing player to reach base safely for any other reason—in short, "27 up, 27 down".

The feat has been achieved 20 times in the history of major league baseball—18 times since the modern era began in 1900

I really did expect him to throw one at some point during his career.

And as an Astros fan, I'm just as confused as some of you. It's like making fun of a kid in a wheelchair.

I am happy for Roy Halladay. I would say he is my favorite pitcher of all time. Too bad Jim Joyce cost Armando Galarraga his perfect game today.

yeah idunno about the astros being so hated. who did they ask? people in dallas?

It doesn't make sense to me either. I can understand why people hate the Yankees, Lakers, Celtics, Braves, etc, because of their success and smug attitude of some fans. That said, what did the Astros, Phillies (pick your favorite ne'er do well team) ever do to merit it?
