Can I wipe my razor down with a silicone impregnated gun and reel cloth instead of oil or vasoline? This would be for day to day use and not long term storage.

IMHO, better than oil or vaseline for day to day, and even for long-term storage, Superior Shave sells straight razor sized silicone "gun socks"

i use rem oil and it seems to work great.
Heck yeah, it works real good. The only down side is you can't get anything in the pivot point.
I use the Marine Tuff Cloth by Sentry Solutions. They also make a needle dropper oiler, not sure how it will interact with scales though, used an Eze-ox oiler once to lube/protect the pivot, didn't play nice with my scales, so be careful.
